Birdboy
Im chuffed. FEO called me today at 1pm to say he has my FAC approved and in his hand, can he come to see me at 5pm tonight with it !! So he has just left my house and after a tug on my cabinet i have my certificate. Great feeling. Devon & Cornwall Police has been blinding again turning application around in under 6 weeks. Ive been granted a .22, 17HMR and a .223 - with the .223 being with a mentor for a period of time. I was given a top tip recently that may help some of you applying for you FAC - I originally asked for a .22 17HMR and a .223 and the FEO said no to the 17HMR as it was classed as the same 'tool' as the .22 and he asked me to decide which one i wanted, so i chose the .22 and .223. and i let go the 17HMR. Then a friend of mine said to ring him up and insist i also 'needed' the 17HMR as it was going to have a dedicated night scope on and it wouldnt be practical to keep swapping scopes on the rifles and to zero them each time. Well, I called him and he instantly agreed with me and hey presto, its on my licence. So im off to my local to pick up the CZ Style tomorrow with the MTC Viper 56 scopes i ordered upon the advice of you helpful guys a few weeks ago, so thanks for all the advice. Im gonna need more soon for my choice in .223. The Steyr Scout could be on my wish list . . . . just dont tell my mrs Ive been granted 3 rifles !! Cheers everyone Gaz
silver_fox
Great news, bet you cant wait till the gun shop opens tomorrow. My ticket came back yesterday with a variation for the .17 hmr so I was straight off to pick it up and had it zeroed an hour later and then promptly bagged two rabbits with it. Can't complain about that. Have fun and safe shooting.
bunnybasher100
wish hampsire police would hurry up with mine 6 weeks and no contact.
sunshinedave
Congrats mate! I remember the feeling when mine hit the mat! I also asked for .22 and .17hmr, and stated like you said; .22 for night with a NV scope and the .17 for daytime at extended ranges. Didn't apply for a centre fire, but the FEO did say if I had of, I'd have got it, but with a mentor for 6 months. Probably get a .223 or a .308 in about a years time - I'll have to get a bigger cabinet too.....wish I had paid more attention to you lot about cabinets! Poxy 4 gun one is too small really for just two!!!. Hope you've got a big wallet to buy those three rifles with! Worth every penny!
Birdboy
Yes, cant wait for the shop to open. Not looking forward to zero'ing the gun as i just wanna get on the bunnies..... I took some good advice and bought a Brattonsound Extra Deep Rifle Cabinet for 5 rifles for £167 from the attached. This cabinet also has a lockable internal ammo store. Speak to the owner and he normally beats any other price you can find and chucks in free delivery. Dovey Valley Shooting Supplies. 01650 511252 between 9am and 8pm. I found him on E Bay originally then had a few chats on the phone. Very genuine and the cabinet arrive directly from Brattonsound in 2 days (to my door). Good job on those coney's today Silver Fox. Sunshine Dave - Money isnt the problem with the 3 rifles, its the Mrs . . . . . . . (oh, and the money - in that order) Cheers Gaz

silver_fox
Well? Did you pick up the gun and scope yet? Edited May 2, 2008 by silver_fox
Birdboy
Hi Silver Fox, I rang the shop first thing to make sure the new trigger was put on and Hawke mounts for the Viper scopes he also put on. Due to work commitments i couldnt pick it up until 2pm and then had to pick up my son from school at 3.30pm, so basially had an hour and a half to play. I took my plinking targets to practise on and zero the gun (approx) until i can spend a whole day zeroing properly. Within the hour, i had the CZ hitting the smallest plinking target consistently, so practised on some rabbbits ! Missed one and bagged one ! Great feeling. I cant beleive the power in the .22 as i havent really shot with one before. Used a shotgun for 7 years and S200 air rifle, so this is very new. The round travels so much further and harder hitting than i ever imagined. I think i will really get to grips with the CZ .22 for a while before ordering the .223. Also, i love the sound of the rifle. Near silent until you hit the target. All in all, it is a cracking rifle and looks great with the black and silver CZ Style deisgn, uprated trigger, Hawke mounts, SAK mod and Viper 56 scopes. To bag a coney on my first hour was great. I really need to spend a day getting it zero'd perfectly, so aim to do it over the Bank Holiday. How you getting on with the new HMR ? Cheers Gaz
silver_fox
Gaz -hi, I'm having grouping problems with the HMR. At 100 yds they're about 2 - 3" groups, but at 60 yds a 2p coin could cover the holes so something is happening between 60 & 100yds. I'm off this afternoon to try and eliminate all the variables, first remove the ASE mod and fire a group, then swap scopes and mounts with my .22 fire another group, try another brand of ammo and if all this fails to improve the 100yd groups then it's back to the gun shop to complain. I really can't believe it's the gun because my other 2 CZ's can shoot the knackers off a gnat at 100yds. I managed to bag 2 rats in our chicken run last night with it but that was at only 10yds. It's amazing how well a rat explodes when it's hit with the 17grain ballistic tip, all that was left was the front feet and a bit of tail. Glad to hear you're having fun with your .22, I have the same model and it's a great looking gun. Have a great weekend.
scout
Hi Birdboy Where did you get the rifle from and how much, I'm just looking round now and like the CZ? cheers
Birdboy
Hi Scout, CZ Style was £239 and i think that price seems to be a national set price. I did shop around but couldnt get it any cheaper. I bought scopes (£250) and other bits in the same shop so he knocked off a few pounds and chucked in a sling, and uprated the trigger for free. Sorry to the HMR isnt grouping. Im no expert but ive read on here a few times that the HMR wont group until you have put 500 rounds through it. Is it a used gun or new ? Cheers guys Gaz

Cheers guys Gaz Ah, that's interesting cos the groups are slowly getting tighter, now down to about 1 1/2" - 2" @ 100yds after about 70 rds, (it's a new gun). Mind you, I was coming back up the field this evening and saw a rabbit at what turned out to be 160yds, I leant on a fence post and aimed at the tips of its ears and down it went, perfect head shot. So perhaps I should stop worrying about perfect groups and just concentrate on getting rabbits.
Birdboy
Nice - 160 yds !! It would still be worth getting the grouping sorted out, but like i said, I havent used an HMR, but sounds like the knowledgable chaps on here know their apples, so get 500 put through it then try the grouping again. Im itching to get out, but got family commitments here till Sunday, so hope to get out Sunday PM or early Monday. Just a thought, you said you had a .22 CZ Style. Have you tried to Supersonic rounds in it ? I bought 100 CCi Velocitors yesterday, i think they are called Stingers. Have you tried them or similar ? Cheers Gaz

Cheers Gaz I just bought 500 rds for the hmr @ 28GBP per 100!! it will be a while till I get through that lot. I'll be using the .22 on the rats from now on. I've never used supersonic rounds with my .22 so let me know how they compare to the subs. As an aside, I took the mod off the hmr and it nearly deafened me. It's amazing how much noise that little mod eliminates. I'm really lucky with my family commitments; my wife keeps her horse on my 200m range (or as she would say, I have my range on her grazing land) so this weekend she will be out riding while I am trying out new loads for my .223 My only other job this weekend is to source a 45gal oil drum and convert it into a barbie. Cold beers and medium rare steak, what more could a man ask for? Cheers.
Dave-G
£28 per 100? Perhaps the gunshop you use don't like old peeps with grey hair! Most around here are 50p either side of a tenner a pack, but fleabag gets his remmies for £8 a pack at Helston.
