reasons for having 17hmr on fac?

Recommended Posts

On the fac application is it a reasonable request to ask for a 17hmr for fox, are foxes classed as vermin? would i have to have fox added on the fac to shoot them with 17hmr, maybe i could say i need the hmr for more distance shooting over the 22lr.

What was your reasons for having 17hmr on your fac? i know ppl are going to say shoot with a .223 ect but that would mean a mentor ect more than likely

Depends of Police Force, I have fox on my HMR in Sussex but other forces dont like it.

I asked for .17HMR and .22 on my first application and was granted both, I asked for a HMR for long range rabbit/rooks and did not have any problem with that.

I also have a 243 and that is the preferred foxing rifle in my cabinet.

You're more likely to get the fox condition if you have nothing more suitable. Ask for close range fox and you stand a reasonable chance of either getting it on you cert - or being told in private that close range fox is acceptable if it happens along while controlling other vermin.

Some forces refer to fox as vermin.

Hi

sent off variation form for a fac to get 17hmr put on the reason i put was pest/vermin control.

When it was finally retrurned to me they had put fox on it as well.

I have used 17hmr on foxes and think it is a very capable rifle for taking down foxes

at 75 yrds to the engine house and 100 yrds to the head.

Good luck.
