Birdboy
Hi Guys, Just recently got my FAC and bought a CZ Style .22RF. Very pleased with it. I was also granted a .223 With Mentor and so i will now be looking to acquire asap so i can sort a fox problem out at my permission (before someone else gets my permission !) and rack up some hours with the mentor. Can anyone recommend a good .223 that is reasonably priced. I dont mind synthetic or wood Do CZ make one ? Ideas and approx costings would be appreciated. I recently saw a Steyr Scout which i really liked, but £800 second hand excluding scopes, mod etc. Need something cheaper. Cheers guys. Many thanks Gaz

Baldrick
CZ or Howa will be your cheapest option, for new rifles. There are supporters of each brand on this forum. I like the mini-Mauser action of the CZ. My last .223 was a Tikka Varmint, which shot flawlessly.

dunganick
They seem to shoot well for about 50 rounds, then they just seem inconsistent and a pain. Everyone i know who has one (besides me) has sold theirs. ChrisV and Fister on here, both competent shots and good hand-loaders, willing to do some work to get their rifles working well (like myself) all of us loss hope in them. They just dont seem able to deliver consistent groups. My howa changes zero about 1x ever 3 i shoot it on average. Trust me ive checked everything, and im in the process of basically replacing every component part on the gun to fix it. (ruger 10/22 syndrome) Unfortunately for me ive invested too much money into my gun for me to sell it now, so im going to wait it out untill i can make it shoot. But in the mean time i could have got a howa with a synthetic stock, been out, worked up a handload for it and been shooting alot mroe without worrying about damaging the stock, whilst ive had my howa and still not made it shoot. My experience with everything Tikka/Sako is its excellent (having said which i think one of our NI members had a bad experience) But i would recommend you look at the groups Hunters pretty much standard .222 tikka varmint shoots with winchester molly tips. Its disgusting.
mickeylove
I got my tikka 595 from catton game fair £400 with a meopta 12x50 scope and its shot flawlessly, your best bet is to look around the game fairs, theres some bargains to be had.
