gdunc
With a view to working the dogs in tick territory which Frontline do you reccomend? I'm looking for comparison between the pippetes and the spray bottle. Could I use the spray a few day prior to taking them out rather than the pippetes and their regimented application? Do you apply the spray in the same way as the pippetes? Cheers for any advice
MC
I use Frontline Combo in a pipette every 8 weeks and Merlin hasn't had a tick for nearly 2 years and he has never had fleas.
al4x
go with Stronghold, it may be more expensive and prescription only but its so simple and more effective, just spot on once a month job done. The thing with frontline spray is if you use it to the recommended amount its very expensive and you nearly need to drench the dog in it to get enough on Edited May 23, 2008 by al4x

Thanks for the advice chaps - I was just at the vets so may have missed an opportunity for a prescription but I could pop by and get one. I shall investigate stronghold and compare and contrast. Keeping two dogs without any passengers is an expensive business it seems! Cheers
WGD
Another Frontline spot on user here, once a month without fail. Has worked on my lab for years but the trick must be getting it onto the skin and not the hair. Easy with the lab, not so with the springer pup - i made a bit of an **** of it last month and ended up with most of the solution on her coat... i've taken three ticks off her this month. You also have to keep the dogs out of water (I have assumed this is no swimming, rain doesn't seem to matter) for 48 hours for it to be effective. pjwindsor
the frontline issue is one our house has debated! ie the cost against insecticidal shampoo, the effects on the environment as the chemicals in it are very powerful, the dog does not like the application and not being touched by us for 2-3hrs, washing your dog removes efficiency but a clean dog is preferred when it sits on your knee, etc we decided to use up our stock and not buy any more we use program tablets for fleas 1 per month and as she needs alot of washing due to being a dirty little sod we use insecticidal shampoo and groom thoroughly ( me ) ps we did try the spray gun applicator but that just seemed to get the chemical everywhere and on us and the correct dosage was v expensive have you used adventix? or advocate? all similar chemicals but target different bugs etc but still tuff on the environment cheers pjwindsor

Kay
I have always used the spray a i have been a bit wary of the spot on being a bit to concentrated to use on my ferrets , and i find it more ecconomical to use
