fallowbuck
Its probably because they don't regard him as "Professional", snob value really. A farmer I know wanted to renew his cert and had a female Church Warden sign it. she was deemed not suitable and he had to find another, a retired J.P.!! Dave-G
I'm now putting this down to someone at HQ not knowing the difference between a shottie and a section one firearm. A gun is a gun to some of them. With the farce we had about a week ago little surprises me any more about firearms departments, their trainees, and their different interpretations of rules or best practice. Fleabag and I were compelled (worded as strong advice) to leave both of our rifles and bolts in the same safe while each of us holds different keys to prevent the others access. The danger I see with this is that if my security was breached by the theft of the cabinet EACH of us would have lost complete firearms that a criminal could use. We had previously been advised we could temporarily store his rifle in my cabinet if he kept his bolts and bullets. Which means a criminal would have been unable to acquire a complete firearm if either my cabinet was taken or his car is stolen. jef
Wednesday last week I got a call from the local FAO. "Hi, do you realise your cert's are up for renewal in September? What I'd like to do is get the ball rolling with the paperwork at this end and I'll come and see you next week. In the mean time get eight passport photos of yourself taken. " He phoned again today, "How would tonight suit, around six o'clock?" So sure enough, ten to six there's a knock at the door. First off he checked my guns against his record and my cabinet then we sat down to a coffee at the table. He produced a file containing all the relevent documents for my co-terminous cert's and they mostly filled in already! He seperated two lots of forms, one for each cert and explained what I needed to do. I told him I also wanted a variation for a .223, which he didn't have a problem with and duely changed the relevent fields. He also gave me a form for the land owner to fill out with regards permission. After confirming all the details and everything I had to do all the forms were laid out with pre addressed envelopes, for myself and the referees. He had also gone over the info sheet with a highlighter for the sections and fees relevent to myself. I couldn't believe the effort he had gone to where in previous years I had to do it all myself including sourcing the forms. I then mentioned that my dad had two guns he was passing to myself and my brother. "No problem" says he and produces 3 more forms for each of us including the pre address envelopes and all. Incase you can't tell, I was well impressed with the whole thing, from his preperation to the notes he was taking throughout our discussion. How does this compare to experiences from other forces? I did ask him if a fire fighter could sign my SG cert and he said no, unless he was of an elevated position. Unfortunately the guy I know has nothing to do with the turn table appliance. Just my bit.... Jef Edit, The only down side to this is that I will get my variation for the .223 but won't be able to act upon it untill the current cert expires in September. Plenty time to save then..... Edited June 9, 2008 by jef

jef
I can't understand the problem??? I'm sure you must be frustrated. The firearms ref is about someone who actually knows you and can comment on any experiences he has with you in handling a firearm, conduct etc. Have you tried calling your fao again for an explanation?
