reedbradshaw
well, as some of you may know i am in the process of applying for my SGC. the original plan was to store the gun in my friends cabinet . However, his cabinet looks to only hold 4 guns as its got 4 "holders" he has got space on his ticket for another gun but the cabinet is shared by him and his father so i suppose he can go and buy another gun to store within his cabinet. . i do think i would be able to fit a extra gun ( which would be mine, ) in the cabinet BUT is there some legal issue here ? i have looked through gun websites and some cabinets hold 2/3 guns 3/4 guns etc etc. am i right in thinking his may hold 4/5 guns he is not so sure and just wants confirmation before i send my SGC off i want everything to be ok. if i was to send my SGC off and the FAO came round, would he be right to question my self and the cabinet holder in where i would put the gun ? on another note i am thinking if this doesnt work i am going to buy a cabinet and store it in my grandads house, does the cabinet have to be professionally fixed whats the normal application route ?? send off SGC, FAO comes out to check FIXED cabinet, SGC granted ? bignoel
why would you want to keep it at your mates house anyway. you are restricted to use then only got access when he is home .?

reedbradshaw
the reason it cant be stored at my house is that there is no room what so ever, and living my parents ( im only 20 ! ) im restricted.
reedbradshaw
cheers for replies, ill have a think about my options, One option is to buy a cabinet and store this at my grandads ( he lives next door ) but then i have to cover the cost of the cabinet, cabinet fixings and the actual fixing of the cabinet. Cheers I like the post you have gone out there and done some research on it then you have asked us the area you are not sure about. You can fit the cabinet yourself, you dont need to get a professional to do it. Get some Rawl bolts they are the ones that expand in the wall so you cant pull it off they are about a £1 each, and make sure there is no gap between the cabinet and wall. A preferred place is a place out of view. Df Edited June 9, 2008 by dustyfox
reedbradshaw
cheers for all the advice folks. well i should be ok in fixing the cabinet on my own, glad to hear it will be at a low cost ! i was expecting around £20.00! i am swaying towards the idea of putting a cabinet in my grandads house instead of my friends because as above i will have more access ( as i have a key to my grandads house i will have unlimited access ! ) is having the cabinet out of sight essential ? the room i am thinking of fixing it to is just a spare room and is completely empty. However there is a fitted wardrobe which i suppose i could fit it in to. if i was to do this i would have to use a "break down cabinet" ( i think thats what they are called ) thats fine by me but are they any good ? ive been offered to buy one which is just under a year old but is in new condition for £45.00. would you say thats a good deal ? it certainly looks it and i am hoping to purchase it tonight. i am not fussed on having fire arms in the future or a semi auto shotgun all i want is a cheap o/u or s/s for rough shooting so a breakdown cabinet would be fine. do all o/u guns fit in to the breakdown cabinets ? the one i am buying holds 2 guns but i will only be after one ( and possibly a .410 in the future ! ) so will they all fit no problems ? UnclePete
I'm baffled by this, and I can't see the FEO approving storage at another location. Let us know how you get on.

I live in a rented house, so i have always stored my firearms at my parents house, as i have moved around a fair ammount the feo thought this was the best option when we met. All my shooting is around my parents village, and i get a nice mug of tea and a cake when i fetch my guns, bonus

Let us know how you get on. ive spoke to the FAO on the phone and he said its fine as long as i include a written letter from the owner. the only thing im worried about is the fact that my grandads house is a bit of a dive and very out dated, looks like something out of the 70's ! i hope the FAO doesnt see this as a bad thing!! ill be meeting him in a suit as i will be coming from work, hope that portays my character well for the scary FAO! al4x
ha ha mine was a classic, I've got a renovation property mine was fitted out of the way in a locked cupboard but part of the house the FEO spotted the window panes missing and no window locks etc etc and there were no problems at all. I'd add its grade 2 listed which means I can't up the security much but he seemed happy. I am in a low crime area which may make a difference

taz24
Hello Reed. There are quite a few gun cabinates for sale on here at the moment. If I was you I would get the biggest cabinate available that you can afford, you can't be too big now can you . I would install it at your grandads because like you say you will have access to it at all times and only you will have access. If you want a hand doing it when you get the cabinate I don't mind popping over and giving you a hand. All the best taz.
