Ice
Well saturday had quite a few supprises set up for me! Turned up to shoot about midday, hoping to shower some pigeons and a few rabits, but mainly to to get out for a relaxing walk on my own in the countryside. Had a chat with the bloke who owns the farm, loaded up and off i went, due to the heat, i wasnt really looking like a hardened hunter, and decided to go topless to soak up some rays..... Was strolling around the sheds through what looks like a junk yard and the first target dashed out from the bushes, identified it as a pigeon so bang!! the first tally on the board... upon closer inspection, what moved, tried to fly and looked like a pigeon, didnt have the colours of a pigeon, it had the colours of a phesant or a partridge "was deffinatly a pigeon before the keyboard hero's come out" on return to the farm i showed the farmer and he said he gets a few like that, strange ones, ("has anybody else seen these?") Anyway, tally number one confirmed, stroling along peacefully not a care in the world and two young rabits presented themselves, one and two bang, bang, another two for the bag! Jumped the gate into the boardering field where there was a large number of cows, no big deal ill simpily walk around them up to the next field, when the decided to try there luck, gang up and trot towards me....... all of em...... so i tried shouting, and they bloody ignored me.... right plan "B".......... "LEG IT"....... Not through fear of personal injury or even death...... but through fear of unleashing 2 barrels onto an attacking cow and having to caugh up the vets bill, or worse, the cost of the cow......... Anyway, as per usual i found myself walking all the way around totally about half a mile through the waist high crops, i wasnt that bothered due to the weather, just bloody lazy..... After i reached my desination, rabit galore..... bang, bang 2 kills around 30 yards, quick reload down the hedge line and another 1, bringing the total to 5. All of a sudden i was transported to Iraq...... with gunfire raining down on me..... seven shots in my direction within 30 secs, my heart was pounding....... i have never been so scared on my own in the middle of nowhere armed with a 12 bore..... but yet i find myself lying on the ground unable to move..... After a a few frantic minutes i let off 2 shots to make my presence known, poped my head above the wall and turned out the farmer had planted 2 crow scaring machines and decided to have a laugh at my expense... Anyway i sat there for 10 minutes, enjoying the view and the pollenated air (which didnt agree with my hayfeaver very well) when i spotted something runaging around in the field opposite, around 250 yards away..... a young fox snooting around. So i made my way along the hedge down to the boarder of the fields, Resisting the temptation of looking into the field to spot it, and possibily scaring it away i made my way down to the gate which was in the far corner. When 10 yards or so away from the gate , i peered over the hedge to see if i could spot it, it was around 60 - 70 yards away, which abviously was way to far for a shot, however the good new was it was heading slowly but surely in the direction of the gate, which was in my direction, then he looked up and straight at me, ******** i thought, after all that ive blown it.... it just stared straight at me and didnt flinch, so i slowly retracted my head down below the hedge line and out of sight. I lay down in the long grass, 10 yards or so away from the gate and awaited my target, if it comes, it comes, if it doesnt, it doesnt and its my fault......... 5 - 10 minutes later, what comes snooting around the corner to get some good news but foxy.... I made a noise, it stopped moving and look straight towards me once again, and BANG!!!! it looked like it tried to run so BANG!!!! second barrel followed up the first's work..... Foxy had passed to the other life..... upon closer inspection, the first shot, had made a clean hole through its chest taking the contents with it, this obviously gave such an impact it gave to illusion that it was trying to run away, the second shot penertrated just below the jaw line and again punched a hole around 7cm diameter stright through, taking the spine and all that surrounds with it. I felt a bit guilty considering the overkill as the first shot would have killed it dead on the the spot, but if anyone had of been with me they would have done exactly the same thing, as it honestly looked like it was trying to legg it.... and plus it cant get anymore dead than dead right.... so i took a few pickys with my phone, didnt turn out that good but still worked as proof... Strolled back to the farm to tell the farmer the good news and all he could do was laugh at me from the bird scaring incident.... he said he was looking from the windows with the bino's and couldnt stop laughing..... He was extremely pleased with the fox result, never the less. As i was keeping my gun, a flock of pigeons came in for a landing on the barn roof, so i loaded up a few shots, and gave them a lead shower, keeping my gun for the second time, and something caught the corner of my eye, a rabit in the middle of the yard, less than 10 yards away watching what i was doing, so loaded up and it just sat there, pointed the gun at is and for some reason i couldnt shoot, just looked so innocent and cute, (my soft side got the better of me so i left it be) ill get him next time, hes had spot of luck now.... Hope you enjoyed the read.... as much as i enjoyed the day....... Ice

Ice
Similar, but looked more like a pigeon than that, smaller neck etc..... It looked and moved exactly like a pigeon, but was a lot more colourful, very similar colours to that one but not quite there. What breed is that anyway?? Zapp
It is a turtle dove, which is a protected species. I posted it up in case you had bagged one and if that was the case was going to quietly suggest you remove that bit from your post before you got jumped on. I'm not too sure what it was you shot, although I have seen some pretty wacky coloured ferals in my time. ZB
Ice
No it was deffinatly not one of them, the body was normall ferral colours but the head was a lot lighter with browns / silvers / purples and so on..... just not the average ferral colours. Didnt know we had turtle doves around this neck of the woods, do they fly the same as a pigeon / have the same resemblance in flight??? Sounds like a feral which had been interbred with something else (racers perhaps). Turtle doves tend to fly (in my experience) a lot faster than woodies and in a straight line, if that makes sense (none of the looping up and then diving or other f*rting about woodies tend to do). They also have a very distinctive "purring" call. ZB
al4x
or a dove / collared dove, bit like a pigeon just a bit smaller
Ice
Well i hope it was an interbread ferral, as i dont fancy the abuse from the cellmate who happens to be a mass murderer when he asks "what are you in for?" and i say shooting a protected bird.... got a feeling im going to be someone's bit*h
