dazbrit
I had some cards printed a while back offering my services free in the way of vermin control and i put them in shop windows, sent them to farmers, golf courses, land owners etc. and put some in my local farm and pet superstore. I have just had a call from a lady a few miles from from me who has a rat problem on her small holding. The rats are hanging around her dog pens and barns so she didn't want me to shoot there because of her animals, so i thought fair enough and told what traps she would be best to get and posions to get rid of them etc. She thanked me for her advice and time and just before i was about to hang up she asked me if rabbits where counted as vermin??? I told her they were and she said she is over run with them and so are the neighbouring small holdings and farms and asked if i'd like to come up and take a look around and see what i could do. RESULT I HOPE. I'm going to see her on Friday so fingers crossed this could be the foot in the door i need in gaining some shooting permissions. Any advice of you lads would be gratefully appreciated in the way i should approach this and i'll let you know how i got on Friday.

MM
well, by the sounds of it Daz, your a nice enough chap helping out little old ladys an all. if you be yourself when you are there, you wont have any probs. just remeber one thing, these people have forgot more than you know, so just agree to everything they ask. mention about clearing up after yourself, take your papers with you (ID, insurance,) and dress like a gent. good luck, keep us informed

Glynn
hi good luck friday. Make sure you got all your documents and insurance, If sheep are on small holding you can mention that approx 12 rabbits eat as much grass as 1 sheep or 1 breeding pair of rabbits will bring upto 96 young a year (inc there offspring breeding aswell) or you could try that by law its the farmers responsibilty to control the rabbit population and thats not even going into the damage they cause. anyway good luck again

Japrite
I ve found hat doing the BASC safe shots course opens up a lot of doors, and it only takes 20 mins. i would take it if you have not already, its good for everyone, and i think, after witnessing a very unsafe gun should become compulsery. Also be aware of other stock, 1 of the places where i shoot is a livery stable so b4 i go shooting i always ask te farmer where the horses, and consequently no go/no shoot areas are. Just a thought. good luck. Japrite
