Nicky T
I currently shoot a Browning 525, 30", Multi-choked over/under shotgun. My bottom barrel has a choke with 4 nothes in and my top barrel has a choke with 3 notches in. Firstly what does this mean, and are the chokes the correct ones? I mainly shoot sporting clays (95% of the time) but occassionally shoot Skeet and want to try DTL in the near future. Can i use this choke combination for all of these disciplines or would i be best advised to change them? All info/opinions appreciated! MJN
i notch = full ii = IM iii = M iiii = IC iiiii = CL none = skeet Edited June 20, 2008 by MGMan
casts_by_fly
you're shooting cylinder and improved cylinder. That's about as good as you're going to get for skeet and is my choice there also. For sporting and game/pigeon shooting I prefer a little more choke. I normally choke IC/mod for general shooting. If I am shooting pigeons/crows and pass shooting then I'll choke mod/imod or even imod/full. thanks rick
Peter De La Mare
1 notch is full, 2 is 3/4 3 is half, 4 is 1/4, none is skeet.
Nicky T
Thanks - the previously mysterious world of choking is starting to become a lot clearer now
Gordon R
For Sporting - you have the ideal - 1/4 and 1/2 - 4 notches and 3. For DTL - 3 in the bottom barrel and 2 in the top (1/2 and 3/4). For Skeet - use 4 notches(top barrel) and no notches(if you have one of these) in the bottom barrel.
peter-peter
5 notches is skeet o notches is cylinder. for skeet use 5 bottom 4 top. for esp use 4 bottom 3 top for dtl use 2 bottom 1 top. these are the best combinations.
Ninj
5 notches is skeet o notches is cylinder. Taken from Beretta manual, do they do things differently? Ive seen CL and SK listed both ways round: Rich Edited June 20, 2008 by Ninj

Ninj
Sorry I wasnt clear, I meant in terms of what they call Skeet and what they call Cyl. CPSA handbook says the same as the Beretta manual: Skeet = 0 notches Cyl = 5 notches Rgds Rich
