Fisherman Mike
Sir Rembrant did us well in last years Gold Cup and I am convinced he would have won with another few yards. I think the Gold Cup is his target again this year and if he has retained his form or even improved a few pounds over the summer would have a sound chance again come March. He is out tomorrow at Wetherby in the Charlie Hall Chase but best watched as his price will be too short for a reasonable return in a 6 runner race. This horse has always been held in the highest regard by his trainer Robert Alner and he is one of the shrewdest handlers around. I have already backed the horse Anti post for the Gold Cup and if he should win tomorrow and have a good season his odds for Cheltenham will tumble. He is still only 8 and should reach his peak this year. I would recommend that if you like to speculate a fiver for the Gold Cup now you might be buying a decent chance come the day for what is about the cost of a box of Carts or a couple of pints of Stella. Fisherman Mike
Jonno.. Monkerhostin is a horse I like alot I shall be keeping an eye out for him. My local stable Tom George ( Slad ) just a couple of miles up the road has just started to get his string showing something.. He had three seconds at Cheltenham Wednesday all at good EW prices ( I made a few quid, enough to buy the kids some pumpkins) he has a couple running tomorrow at Chepstow. keep an eye on his stable over the next few weeks when they hit form he has winners all over the place. Cranfield.... How many Kidneys do you have ?
Cranfield
Mike, I am now resorting to borrowing them from friends and relatives.
Teal
Nicked from someone else, this guy does know his stuff and appears to get it right more often than not (may be worth just following this without a stake, I'll try and get you more updates if they're any good, lot of text though...) -------------- What a fantastic day's racing with the Breeders Cup live on free to air sky 415 and I will be back later with a mini-preview and hopefully a winner or two! Read on for only my fifth maximum bet of the entire flat season! In the afternoon we have the best jumps race so far this season on C4 with the Charlie Hall Chase. What a conundrum, three front runners and five of the six making their seasonal debut on soft ground that will really test their fitness. Two exciting novices, Lord Sam 9 wins from 10 races so far including four novice chases against top class opposition and Royal Emperor taking on some of the best chasers around, Sir Rembrandt, second in the Gold Cup and Grey Abbey who had such a fabulous season last season winning the Scottish Grand National after a big handicap win at Doncaster. A selection, well I will watch the race rather than bet as fitness must be uncertain and some will have bigger later season targets but for those who must I think the novices might find their jumping put excrutiatingly to the test by the relentless jumping of Grey Abbey and I think he is the likeliest winner. But I have two other selections. French Import Iron Man apparently impressed connections in a racecourse gallop at Ayr (same day as Grey Abbey had a spin there) and he is thought to be very interesting by his trainer and could be one to follow this season. Around 7/2 on exchanges he can take the 2.20 on the Wetherby card. The Listed Race at Newmarket is a hot contest. Babadona won it last year, while Take a Bow all but won the Cambridgeshire and is sure to be popular. Tout Seul is a lively outsider despite a poor season and Quito has a cult following while John Gosden's Sleeping Indian is interesting but inexperienced. However a winner before on soft ground the selection is Funfair (NAP Newmarket 3.10) who has all the ticks in the right boxes. Trip is perfect, well in at the weights, ground (won in absolutely bottomless ground at Carlisle as a three year old) and track will suit and is a fresh horse at this stage in the season, with just two previous runs a massive plus and the yard is in form. His second to Polar Ben last time is terrific form and this five year old merits only my fifth Maximum Bet this season (two winners, 12/1 suggested and 8/1 and one beaten a short head from our previous four!) . About 7.4/1 on the exchanges. Back later with the breeders Cup! ------------------------- Well tonight at Lone Star Park is the richest racing in the World and has brought together most of the finest horses from five continents! The beers are already in the fridge! icon_smile.gif Lone Star has a short home straight and the weather has been humid but not hot. The ground won't be as fast (neither the dirt) as many feared after rain earlier in the week. Taking it race by race with a focus on the Europeans but moreso on winners!! In the first Nebraska Tornado is the Andre Fabre representative and has possibilities but this is wide open without hotpot Azeri and the US form looks somewhat scratchy, so I am not having a bet. Better opportunities later, but in the fillies race Sweet Catomine has impressed observers at the track this wek and is a tentative selection. Jerry Bailey rarely leaves without a winner and his Baletto is a big danger. Six Perfections has been trained all year to defend her mile crown on the 7.35 and holds every chance but could be scuppered by a poor draw. Antonious Pious is quirky and you can't afford that round here. However soft ground will suit Diamond Green (good speed figures too) and his second to Azamour reads well as does his running with American Post in France and he can put a winner on the board for Europe! Disappionting Europe has no runner in the Sprint (Oh I still remember Dayjur jumping the path and throwing away my handsome bet win slip all those years ago icon_sad.gif ) Champali, who is four from five on soft ground, is a token selection. A sub standard Filly and Mares throws up ironically the nap of the night! Ouija board, oh i would love to tip her but she looked a thorough stayer in the Oaks and was inconvenienced by both the track and an abysmal Johnny Murtagh ride in the Arc. She is the clear form pick, but I cannot have her at 7/4. LThe trip is shorter and won't suit, the race is likely to be a tactical affair lacking front runners and she will be unsuited by the short straight. Light Jig the other fancied runner is a doubtful stayer. So you are looking at 10 furlong horses that will act with cut in the ground and who are tough. And with 8 wins from 18 runs, Moscow Burning is the pick at a tasty 20/1 in places. Got to be on each way at such a generous price but I think she will win. The 9.20 throws up a much shorter price but another decent bet. Should get the early pace in the race he needs with Consolidator in the Field. Roman Ruler at 9/4 is a fair enough price. Looks like a three year old already by all accounts. Many will see the 9.55 as the race of the night. The European Flag will be flown by Powerscourt, incredibly tough 4 year old, but he has had a really tough season which might have caught up with him, being unluckily disqualified in ther Arlington Million and having run in Ireland, England and France as well. Kitten's Joy will be odds on but I think it is the American banker of the night and will win. Star Over the Bay is a decent outsider having won its last three. The finale (if you are still standing!!!!) is all about Pleasantly Perfect against Ghostzapper, we are told, but I am not sure........... unbeaten and hyped by the Americans as the greatest champion of the modern era, Ghostzapper is unbeaten this year but what has he beaten? I think he has it all to prove against some tougher rivals. Pleasantly Perfect won this last year and the Dubai World Cup and is a real tough horse and of the two is the one I prefer. But there are others......Azeri runs here instead of the opener but this is a hell of an ask for a front runner, while Perfect Drift is another real toughie at the very top level but rarely wins. In the end, I am going for Roses in May who has won all five starts this year and always looks as though there is more to come can upset them all. Have a few beers and cheer home a winner or two! jonno 357
WOW Teal. Mr Statto or what Today I'm opposing Funfair 3.10 and opting for top weight Putra Pekan I too can remember Dayjur and the money I lost. I went to York earlier that same year and saw Dayjur break the track record. Thanks for the info Mike. I had a look at the 2.25 at Chepstow. I've had a small punt on Turtle Soup. There's quite a few first times out in that race so owt could win Good luck & hope you win a few quid today Cheers Jonno

Teal
from the same guy, if this gets too much say I don't fully understand some of this but if you continue to find it good FM then just let me know. Not the best of breeders Cups, some huge priced winners, and the Ghostzapper really did turn out to be a wonder-horse with a time for the 10 furlongs that still beggars belief, even to an old cynic like me! Tonight is the 'race that stops a nation' so if you are up around 4.00 am as you stagger in from the nightclub, you'll be tuning in to the Melbourne Cup to see the best horse in the race Vinnie Roe, winning the trophy. Has won the Irish St Leger an astonishing four times so despite the fact this can be a rough house of a handicap, a very different sort of race, he is strongly fancied. Any 6/1 should be swallowed up. We want soft ground but if it is not we are assured that we will get our money back as his trainer will not run. A wide draw puts me off Mamool, while Makybe Diva at 4/1 to defend his crown is too short for me, as an exposed handicapper. If the ground did firm up (unlikely, my mole says it was raining last night in Melbourne) then Media Puzzle would be the pick and around 20/1 from the same stable as Vinnie Roe, is worth a small saver. Fisherman Mike
Jonno I had £5 eachway on antonius pius, so thanks mate keep them coming  Yes thanks Jonno I had a small stake eachway also. Managed to get 25,s which was a good price. I think Jamie Spencers days with the Obrien team might be numbered though. He aint quite the tactical rider like Dettori, Kinane, or Fallon. and personally I dont think he is strong enough in the finish. Thanks again, Mike. Jess
When is the Gold Cup? I hate it... I have to drive past Cheltenham racecourse on my way to University and you wouldn't believe how much traffic there is during the Gold Cup!!! Takes about 2 hours to do a 20minute journey Why cant people watch it on TV?! Of course, ill be putting money on the horse with the nicest name! Fisherman Mike
Gold cup is usually March 17th on or around St Patricks day Jess. Are you coming in to Cheltenham from the Tewkesbury way to get to Uni. ? FM.
Jess
Yeah, i go to the campus in St. Paul's so i have to drive literally past the racecourse to get to it. The only other way is to go through Tewkesbury and Cheltenham which takes even longer as a lot of the race traffic is sent through Cheltenham as well.. Gold Cup week is a nightmare when you live in/near Cheltenham!!!
