russuk
Having nearly finished my homemade Larson Trap, I'm thinking of my next project, and I've come up with the idea of making a homemade smoker. Does anyone have any plans, ideas, hints or tips I could have? Cheers.
henry d
How big and hot or cold smoking ??
bob300w
There you go blue, one hot smoker. Average time 15 minutes, depending on thickness of meat, fish etc.
bob300w
When this one rusted away, I used an ammunition box and a gas burner, much more sophisticated, well, a lot easier to use. If I can find a pic of the Mk2, I will post it. Only use oak sawdust though, or some hardwoods, you can get very bitter tastes from some wood. lapwing
Try looking on google for "pit bbq smoker". It seems to be a USA thing designing them this way, but lets you do hot & cold smoking in the same bit of kit. We made one last year but a bit small; I think you need the diameter to be at least 14" otherwise you have to stoke it up every 40 minutes. The principle works well. Game rearer
Or you could just watch beyond river cottage which is the episode with the smoker on it.
