sambu13
i went to a gun shop yesterday to hae a look at some shotguns as im looking to buy my first one. i went in and was greeted by wary looks from the people in there. i didnt mind this as i probably looked a bit out of place in jeans and t shirt but i didnt like the way the bloke showing me the guns didnt seem to have time for somone interupting his chat. he did let me try a few for fit but i just wasnt convinced he was really wanting to find me the best gun. i stated when i went in that i wanted to buy a gun so he didnt think i was a time waster! i also mentioned getting a 410 for shooting in a yard and he just sneered at me and said, whats wrong with a 12? (yhe only 410 they had was a grand anyhow!) maybe i was being over sensitive but i just wasnt impressed! sambu

Taff Mason
don't worry mate i get a lot. must have one of those faces eh? that was always the worst thing about litts, but now they're gone most local gun shops make a bit more of an effort around here. i'd go else where from now on if you can. people will stop shopping there eventually. we may not buy the most expensive guns or kit etc, but our cash coming in little and often must add up. Mungler
Lots of gun shops are run like clubs rather than commercial businesses. All I would suggest is that you don't spend a penny there. Interestingly, most of the shops near me are run exactly how you describe - maybe not snobby but just as off putting and unwelcoming. However, then came along Eastern Sporting and the mould was broken - a proper shop in that it is a customer driven business - I reckon Alan must do a roaring trade now and must have really eaten into the other shops' trade - and good luck to him. Find a shop you like and spend your money there.
bob300w
Simple enough solution, find a gun shop that does want your custom. There is too much of this "we have a captive audience" attitude in gun shops, especially those who have a number of farmers on their client list. scout
I had exactly the same experience in Plymouth, ended up travelling 3 times the distance but got far better service, although at a higher price at the Sportman's in Exeter. Relatively new to shooting so my custom will now not go to my local gun shop as their attitude was just how you described.

starlight32
My local gun shop suffers as Mungler said earlier shop completely full of people but no-one spending money....... just popping in to talk about general rubbish. I go into gunshops to buy or look before a buy or to buy something -i.e cartridges. There is nothing that annoys me more than trying to be served and a a total plant yaking on to the shop assistant who is in full support about how his 28" Baikal was blitziing pigeons at 80 yards..... Or the 'Rimfire Richards' who are giving large about 140 yard rabbits with the .22 and there is me waiting to spend dollar and not even giving me the time of day. Cheez on a fridayevening the old boys who come into my local RFD even bring their own chairs..... I have made a number ground breaking inuendo's in gun shops... 'Make way there is a bloke spending money here, do want to get a picture.......?' Hello stan..... You been here since last week? Ah Bryan, you still talking pigeons out of the sky, and tell me is your gun of obsolete caliber now......? If I ever opened a gun shop my first business line would be to charge people to talk about shooting..... Make a darn site more money than selling guns or cartridges Bleating over....Regards starlight32 Edited July 13, 2008 by starlight32
