sambu13
my shotguns barre;s are marked f and xf im guessing this is full and extra full but what does that mean in numerical terms? some insight would be greatly apreciated! sambu
Markio
What do you mean in numerical terms? As in when people compare the amount of notches of a multi choke gun or in terms of the measurement in inches of constriction?
casts_by_fly
if you are talking about inches of constriction, you should be talking 30-40 points of constriction (0.030"-0.040") with the full on the lower end and Xfull on the higher end. However, the actual constriction will vary with manufacurer. thanks rick
the last engineer
this will give you a better idea of choke in your barrels .000 restriction - cylinder .005 restriction - skeet .010 restriction - improved cylinder .015 restriction - light modified .020 restriction - modified .025 restriction - improved modified .030 restriction - light full .035 restriction - full .040 restriction - extra full The above information is relative to the diameter of the barrel/s you have. Example: - if one of my own Browning’s has a bore of .739†under barrel, using a skeet choke measuring .734†gives the required .005†constriction is correct “by the book†Now put it in the top barrel measuring .744â€, I now have a .010†constriction making my skeet choke an improved modified, this is why you need to know the size of your barrels. apply this to multi choke guns, "fixed choke" should still follow the above sizing Martin
2shots
Full and ex Full means tight and tighter shot pattern making closer shots a bit more difficult,if your doing ok with it stick with it, it will make you a better shot in the long run and improve your accuracy, the closer the target the tighter your shot pattern will be.If your struggling to hit up close you could also opt to get the chokes lapped out to say half and three quarter to widen up your shot pattern at closer range targets.
