Wookie
As it is getting on to horseradish season (mmmmm. Horeseradish!), I find myself in the market of a small shovel/spade thjingy that is reasonably easy to stow in a car and, in a manner of speaking, reasonably covert. Three items immediately spring to mind and I was wondering if anyone could recommend anything I have missed... 1) Gerber Gorge shovel - About 20 notes and quite small and light 2) Gerber NATO folding shovel - About 40 notes and NATO approved 3) El Cheapo, fleabay-tastic folding spade, NATO copy - 10 posted guv. It's going to live in the car, but I'd rather not have a proper spade/shovel in there all the time. Cheers all
ph5172
Get one of the real or copy NATO ones, they can also be used with the spade at 90degrees to the shaft as a pick.

bob300w
German Army modern issue, available in the Army and Navy store in Colchester, use as pick or shovel, mine is 10 years plus old, probably that again when I got it, (so not that modern) still going strong. Cost around a fiver when I bought it. El cheapo will bend or break on first use.

Would'nt fancy digging a foxhole with one though!!!!!!!!
Wookie
Cheers for all the suggestions. Will be looking for something suitable on the web today and, with luck, I should have it by the weekend. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to Essex, so taking a trip to Colchester to go to the Army & Navy stores is out. Looks like the web willbe my friend once again... PaulABF
G10 for men! Army issue all the way and cheap as chips on fleabay. Wookie, as a matter of interest how do you find/locate horseradish? Any tips?
Wookie
Just ordered one of fleabay for a tenner shipped, should do the job... Horseradish: I noticed a lot of plants in one of the places I used to go past every day to work. So, one day I stopped and used a bit of wood to dig some up. This year I thought I would go prepared and actually get more than one root. Maybe even plant some out in my garden for next year!
