Paul in North Lincs.
The dark nights are almost upon us and I've resisted the temptation to go out lamping only once a week to get the dogs used to it again. Anyway...been working on fittness and stamina over the last month and half in anticipation of the new running season, and heres a few snaps of the curs......................eager now to work the winter through. cheers Edited August 29, 2008 by Paul in North Lincs. Paul in North Lincs.
Well fit Paul Is the Brindle a bullx or has it some in the make up? LB Ay up LB - the brindle is bred out of the old Minshaw lines....which were line bred from lurcher to lurcher. In the mix there is bull, collie, grey, kerry blue terrier, and minshaws do throw a variety of shapes and sizes, my bitch seems to have thrown quite a bit towards the bull, but she is an outstanding worker, day and night

Ay...and dont knock the Nike Air Jerusalems LOL LOL Back to the fitness mate.....now as I previous mentioned, you only get out what you put in. Now if your happy to go out on a night and run 2 or 3 rabbits and go home with your dog blowing out of its ***, then a free run in the morning and evening will keep a dog semi-fit. I, on the other hand run will run these doigs hard all season, and in some cases 'for wages' so they have to be superdooper fit to do the job. They are rested from March to mid July, then I start to increase the morning walk to about 6 miles, and the same on a night, with one lamping session once a week. - swimming is also good excercise. If you are walking 6 miles its likely your dogs are doing 12 at the speed and pace they move about. Slowly the distance is increased, until its impracticle to walk them becasue of time ect, then its into the car, quiet country lanes and let the trott along behind the motor for 10 - 15 miles, (morning and night) ....this builds stamina an muscle which is clealry aided by a good balance diet Once they start grafting they road walking is decreased, and they are run hard 5-6 nights a week................. when your dog has 20 -30 hard runs a night and still dosn't wasn't to get back in the Landy - the you know your doing something right! cheers
p-a-s
Bloody hell paul thats a very involved fitness regime, but as you say you only get out what you put in.i know quite a few well known, seasoned dog men but there fitness programme is nowhere as intensive as yours, obviously you must be very dedicated(and the dogs) well done you are a credit to the sport. paul

Paul in North Lincs.
Hi Scott Harvey is coming on superbly, although he is no longer with me. I have a freind in Manchester who is a Pest Controller for the Forestry Commission, and around 6 months ago his dog got poisioned and died. I put alot of hours in training with him and he made a good dog. Nowadays he is at work every single day of the year, which was the main reason I decided to let him go across to Nick..... I still miss him and he kids do, but I couldn't think of a better life for him to be honest. Nick need a dog asap, and it would have been selfish not to give the dog a life like he has now.
