kingo
After having lessons at the essex shooting school using a browning 525 30" barrels with fixed chokes I have decided this is the shotgun for me as I feel very comfortble with it no face slap mounts nicely and feels very smooth when following the clay and especially after hitting 67 out of 75 clays today its defoe the one for me!! My Question is what should I expect to pay for a second hand one dont really fancy paying over a grand for new one not bothered about it being made from the best wood in the world or engarving just something in mint condition and a sporter, the one I have been usuing is fixed chokes and being newbie i am still not hundred percent at what they do, think its something to do with the spread pattern? or would you recommned going for fixed chokes or multi ? what would be a good price s/h from a dealer or a private sale just dont want to be paying well over the odds. Also is there a Miroku thats identicle to the 525 other than say cosmetic as I believe they are the same as Browning ? Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks Trev Edited September 23, 2008 by kingo

kingo
Have a look on Guntrader Thanks I have looked but most are new guns would be looking more for a mint second hand one as then someone else has taken the drop and not me if I ever come to sell, 525 seems a very popular choice as lots around new but not loads second hand. Mungler
Get yourself down to Alan at Eastern Sporting in Baddow (just on the outskirts of Chelmsford). He's a top fella and he used to be a Browning sales rep. http://www.easternsporting.com/

Mungler
He is different from other gun shop owners in that he is helpful and happy. You will find that gun shop owners are as a breed generally rather miserable and surly.
kingo
Sounds like a place to try, few have said try Essex Gun, you any experience of them ?
MC
Essex Gun are OK, I got my Blaser from there, Alan at Easter Sporting is a top guy. As Mungler has already said, he always has the time to spend with you and is always cheerful. Not like some of the miserable **** who think you owe them a living. Mungler
Sounds like a place to try, few have said try Essex Gun, you any experience of them ? I have bought plenty from Essex Gun in the past and they always have a good level of stock. Big Alan with the square glasses who works there is a very nice bloke and always very pleasant to deal with (so is his mate who we bump into at Copfurn). The Jays blow "hot and cold" - make that "hot and surly"
kingo
Thanks for the advice, will take a look at eastern sporting first as they have the nice people lol, I have just 1 lesson left at the essex shooting school and feel like ive learnt an awfull lot from both mike and Phil, had a lesson today which went well, think it was about 80 out of a 100, so ok I think anyway im getting there. just waiting for the sgc so I can go out on my own and shoot some clays, be gutted if I have my last lesson next week and then cannot get out shooting for months as still no sgc turned up!! Just have to keep my fingers crossed that essex police are not that slow, otherwise will have to resort to paying another pile of money on lessons so I dont forget what ive been taught lol..... Anyway thanks for your Kind advice fellas... Trev Edited September 25, 2008 by kingo
Drive By
Essex police were pretty quick in turning round my application, once i'd had the home visit to check i wasn't a mentalist! Do you mind telling how much your lessons were? Think me and my dad could do with a spot of fine tuning and you sound like you've had decent success from this chap! Baldrick
Another vote for Alan at Eastern Sporting. I go in there every week, and he is unfailingly helpful and cheery. My FEO always raves about Roding Armoury at Abridge, Kingo, but I think that shop leans more towards rifles than shotguns. Might be worth a try, it being on your doorstep? Do you mind telling how much your lessons were? Think me and my dad could do with a spot of fine tuning and you sound like you've had decent success from this chap! How long did you wait in total for yours to come through essex shooting school are excellent and they do 5 lessons for the price of 4 which is £160 but then there are the clays and carts on top, but they do an excellent job there is no other people on the shooting ground other than u and the instructor so u dont need to feel worried about others seeing how **** you are lol, its no exageration when I say that in the last 2 lessons i have hit 67/75 and think last time was about 80/100 and I am a complete novice at this other than being a decent shot in the army which is a total different way of shooting so I am very pleased and they dont show you that many easy clays as you progress, the last time out it felt like i needed a scope on the 525 to hit em but with good coaching I was smashing those long distance clays !!!, its my last one tomorrow and cant wait

Drive By
I think it was less than 2 months in total, once they actually peel open the envelope and book you in its all relatively quick and painless! Cheers for the info i may have to give them a ring and get something pencilled in.

Oly
Also is there a Miroku thats identicle to the 525 other than say cosmetic as I believe they are the same as Browning ? Although similar, I have always found Miroku and Browning to be slightly different - hence I prefer the handling of a Miroku and always buy as such, but it's totally individual. I would suggest that if you like the 525 go for that, and that alone.
kingo
the 525 is a lovely gun and its what ive set my heart on so hopefully I will be able to find one when the time comes to look, anyway last lesson today and thoroughly enjoyed it another hundred carts used up and some difficult clays at distance and speed, those little suckers look tiny at range but still managed to bag a few, cant wait now until I can get my own gun an do some more shooting, shame I will have to wait weeks now before I can go out again... kingo
I am now in a right dilema, visited Essex Gun yesterday and tried a few other guns aswell as 525 for £1179, bettinsoli didnt like the feel of them just didnt seem to mount well and feel right, lanber gold sporting deluxe £686 felt exactly like a browing 525 to handle and was a lovely looking gun, lanber almost £500 cheaper than a 525 which would allow me to buy a new semi auto aswell, tried the a new browning pheonix semi for £590, now this felt lovely, fitted nice like most brownings seem to do for me. I am also very very interested in this browning ultra xs which is for sale in the forums http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/ind...showtopic=69137 this looks a lovey gun although never used a 32" before and would mainly be using for sporting pnly prob is he is in Isle of wight and dont know rfd to rfd works also is it wise to buy a gun you have not seen in the flesh. Now my Dilema is do I just go for the browning 525 the gun ive been using and like, get 2 for the price of 1 if you like the lanber and the semi as I would like semi awsell or the sexy browning ultra xs with the gorgeous wood. I would like them all lol but money wont stretch that far, what would you guys do, is it better to get the cheaper guns or the more expenisve
