reedbradshaw
Good afternoon everyone. ive got a lanber sporting delux and i dread using it in the wet, to some of you it may only be a cheap gun but to me as its my first gun its my pride & joy . So im after a cheap pump action i can shoot with in the wet, trek through mud with it and generally not care about its condition. As long as it works with the dirt and the wet and what ever else nature throws at it. However, i only have a breakdown cabinet so can these guns be broken down. What guns would you recommend for under say £200.00 ? Also, do they cycle any load ? i hear some semi auto's dont like cycling light loads. Thanks Reed
casts_by_fly
you're the one doing the cycling, so put the load you want through it. Pumps aren't the easiest to break down depending on the model you get. I suggest a new (used) cabinet if you are serious about getting a pump. Depending how much you're using it and which pump you get, it would be less work to clean the lanber thoroughly after any wet use then break down the pump any time you use it. Good beater pumps are the mossberg, rem 760, and benelli Nova. An Ithica 37 would do you well and they are easier to break down than a lot of guns, but I don't see many of them over here. thanks, Rick
reedbradshaw
thanks for all the advice. Everything seems clearer now. Ill call up a few local gunshops to see if any of those are in stock failing that i could always check guntrader or ukgunroom. Many thanks for the recommendations
Harnser
reedbradshaw , Dont worry about your lanber getting wet or dirty .They are not made out of candy floss and will take a good wetting with out any problems . just make sure you give it a very good clean before you put it to bed . After cleaning let the gun stop sweating by leaving it in the house at room temperature before putting in the safe . You might think to buy a bailkel or similer ,rather than an old trombone gun . £ 200 will by you a decent knock about gun . Harnser . njc110381
Take the Lanber out and drown it. As long as you strip it down and clean it afterwards there will not be any problems. It's a tool that's designed to work. Get a tin of Napier VP90 spray and use it regularly, much cheaper than a second gun!
vole
I admit am the same even with a £300 gun,I hate to damage them. Just picked up a £60 Manufrance pump action and its ace. Just the job for the crows and seems a good solid but fairly lightweight gun. Theres one on Guntrader for £125 that looks pristine along with a Winchester 1200 in Essex who will ship to rfd. Loads of cheapies out there if you want to try before you spend £200. Edited October 7, 2008 by vole21

vole
vole21, do you find your manufrance hard to take down ? or havn't you even bothered trying before ? Srangely enough I am going to swallow my pride and take it back to the shop as I cant even get the forend off and dont want to knacker it! ps I could not find a semi auto to fit in my old breakdown cab so expect it the same for a pump action. How you get this info on the Manufrance BTW ? Thought it was only me. Edited October 7, 2008 by vole21
reedbradshaw
i just wondered thats all i just want something easy to take down with no "loose bits" and no risk of breaking it while breaking it down. I think a trip to the gun shop is in order tomorrow to ask some questions !
Scarpa
I find it a matter of seconds to undo the screw and take the barrel off my .410 Mossberg. With the moderator on it's a touch long even for the standard cabinet. I just hang the barrel from a projection at the top to save on room. vole
I think most guns have to be easy to strip and its just me and this quirky French gun thats having a slight problem. Bet its a cinch when the rfd sees it today.
