tullyhubbert
That would be Rademon Estate, I've been to a couple of retriever trials there but that was about 15 years ago. I can only remember one really good drive, I'm sure the beating will be fun but I'd say it wouldn't be considered a great "Shoot" as such. -- Tullyhubbert

76Lincoln
Just a quick word of warning, if the dog is young and inexperienced perhaps he'd be better left at home, i know this from my own experience with my eldest springer a couple of years back, he was steady and abidable when out over the fields with me, but i took him beating on a shoot and the pheasants turned his head, as he proceeded to try and put every bird in the cover up before the drive had started, probably the most embarrassing monet of my shooting careeer to date, needless to say i haven't been back to that shoot since and to be honest the blame lay with me, the dog just wasn't ready for an organised driven shoot. Ballymac
Would agree with 76Lincoln, if you are inexperienced yourself as well as the dog, it will end in disaster. Unless the dog is steady don't bring him. Check with the keeper, he may be able to use you in other ways. Had you of had a chance to use the dog earlier in the year 'dogging in' then you could have judged whether he was ready or not. You sound enthuastic about going, please keep that enthuasiasm, but go steady. Don't bring a dog that is going to ruin your chances of getting back beating, and in January there will be the odd beaters day as well
spanielboy
the owner is close friends with the head keeper and it has all been ok'd. it will be kept on a lead at all times and the owner will be there with me. he is working his older dog and wants the younger one walked on the lead for the experience. Ballymac
How did it go Spanielboy, did you have a good day, and any luck with getting a pup?
spanielboy
I had a really good day - was extremely tiring as the forest was still very over grown as there has been no frost. I took out my mates year old springer and he got on very well. i kept him on the lead most of the day and he proved to be quite head strong, but eventually he accepted i was boss and did what was asked of him. The next shoot is this Sat so will be taking him out again. I havent been looking too hard for a dog yet but this year old is tempting me! but we will wait and see!
