Thinking of changing air rifle

Hey everyone,

I have a BSA super sport at the moment break Barrel & was thinking of buying an air filled, been looking at a few makes and models my budget is pretty open (so long as the missus doesn't find out), but my question is i dont have an FAC so the new rifle will be ltd to 12lb will it make a lot of differance to my shooting? I shoot Rabbits, Squirels, Pigeons. haven't tested my rifle with a Chronograph but i'm guessing it's not 12lb, Hope this doesn't seem like a stupid question I know there will be some benifits (not reloading everytime, quiet, etc) but is it worth me spending loads extra.

Any info welcome,

Thanks Tristram, Good hunting

I have a Webley Raider 10 and whilst it has not been trouble free, the concept of a repeating PCP is a good one. I have recently bought an FAC rated BSA Super 10, which I am very pleased with. The power difference makes for very decisive kills at longer ranges than the 12 ft lbs gun.

A Supersport should be doing about 10-11ft lbs anyway so I would not expect you to notice much by way of power.

However, it is easier to shoot a pcp accurately because it does not bounce about as much on firing. In some instances people unused to PCPs think they are underpowered because they are so dead on firing.

Key to all shooting is accuracy. If you can print a small group at your chosen ranges, bang on target, then head shot quarry will be cleanly dispatched.

or if you do want a change, sombody on here is flogging an airsource Benjamin. great for makinh the crossover. i used one for about six months, and they are a great little gun. still around the legal limit, but with a PCP feel. (and they still retain their re-sale value)

PCP is the way to go for more accuracy easier, as far as a gun goes an AirArms S400/410 or a Daystate Harrier x2 would be two good solid reliable guns with simple technology and easy and cheap to fix should something go wrong.

A FT club I am in has had 3 s410's as club guns for beginners and for display/speed shoots at local game fares for about 6 years or more now. They have had thousands if not tens of thousands of rounds through each gun with very little maintainance. The only work they seem to need is the indexing 'prong' replaced every so often and this is probably due to people at he game fares not cycling the bolt properly.

I have a Daystate Harrier and again has been a very reliable gun, it again must be about 6 years old and I am the second owner and other than the recent problem of internal rust on the hammer which was easy sorted it has performed very consistantly and reliably for the 3 years I have owned it.

BSA scorpian t10 is also a nice gun to shoot but not something I know a lot about reliability wise.

Hey Cheers for the advice guys I like sticking to makes that i know or if someone has owned them for a while and recomends them so thats great advice, I've heard great things about the 410 so i think i might go down that route. I'm just weighing up whether my missus would notice it's a different rifle as i'm supposed to be saving for our July wedding. lol

Have to agree with Chris, I've had many springers one of the last that I have used and loved was my Venom 80, smooth as silk but heavy! then came a Rapid 7 and I have'nt looked back. Had it years now, I still pick up the 80 for a plink, but love the 7. No recoil and you can watch the pellet go to your target. A bit of haggling should get you a 7 for around £400.

All the best. Paladin

cheers guys, how long does the standard bottle last in shots roughly, i don't have an FAC so it will be around 11-12 lb.? & do you tend to carry spare bottles. I have a diving cylinder that i will get an adapter for i think seems the best way to go what do you reckon? cheers Tis
