beaker
I went shooting with another forum member over the weekend and got onto the subject of fac air rifles and what you were able to shoot with them. Sorry if this is a stupid question but what is the point of them if they kill the same as a normal air rifle ? Is it extra distance ? What do you gain

You'll also find them more useful for some of the stronger birds (such as a corvids, or seaguls) to make sure you can get a clean kill. Dave-G
The main gains are greater power delivery with a flatter trajectory - which makes for a more reliable and humane kill. A lesser gain is that it extends the potential range somewhat. Would you like to compare your 12ftlb to my FAC one with a bit of ratting? We have a new ratting permision to try out Do you work shifts?

Never tried ratting before got to the permission and they were all over the place it was kill after kill after kill cheers Dave and hope to do it again very soon. Dave-G
Cheers Lee. Yup - they just kept coming out, we reckoned "at least 50" as a score in about three hours, and tough too. We were very surprised at how many there were, but the massive bunker type shed had recently been cleared out leaving them very exposed. They don't stop for very long though so we had to be quick, maybe a tin of catfood mushed up next time methinks. Most of them were shot from the comfort of my Pinin, using the headlights for a lamp. I think Lee was very surprised at the concept of right hooker shooting off the nearside passenger door window. If any of you have never tried this and don't have a roll over cheekpiece on the butt give it a whirl. Anyone thinking about giving Lee an opportunity will find him a darn nice chap - and he was ready to go before the agreed time. He's got one of those chukles when he scores a good hit that lets you know he's having fun.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but what is the point of them if they kill the same as a normal air rifle ? Is it extra distance ? What do you gain Hi Beaker, i use fac airguns because my main shoot is open and flat with little cover so i can use the extra distance , the feo will not clear the land for rimfire or centre fire fac because of the land lay out with my fac mk-1 rapid.22 @40 fpe i can safely reach prey and kill it humanely, i also use a .177fac at 20fpe which flys flat for 60+ yds and hits hard, regds brian

JR1960
Does anyone actually shoot them though, and if so for what reason? Genuine question, just curios. Sorely tempted when the b******ds are floating about over the deeks
Dave-G
I'd hazard a guess there's quite a few of these winged vermin shot on the quiet near seaside towns where they cause misery for some folk. There won't be many admit it openly though. For every person who thinks they are a wondrous sight and sound that is part of living near the shore, there's someone else who's property has been scat on, and the racket they make don't help a light sleeper. That they frequently scavenge in tips and other unhealthy rat infested places then settle on our resevoirs makes me cringe at what filth could be lurking in mans water supply system or the beaches kids play on.
