Seymour Butts
Hi All, Just bought one of those Escort semi autos, I have read all the threads on the escort so decided to start my own! As a left hander I was narked that the options for left handed semi's was VERY limited, and that you often have to pay a premium for the privelege!! (I know this as I was into airguns beforehand and paid extra for a falcon raptor FN19RS) Anyway fortunately I shoot a shotgun with my right eye shut, after a little thinking and a chat with the owner of Fenland Rural Sports (who is also left handed) I decided to buy a right hander, Glad I did! 1st 5 shots with it I had 2 pigeons and a squirrel and it handled the RIO Basic game (30g load) with no probs. I found the escort light and very pointable for a low priced gun and so far I am really pleased with it, as it is only going to be used for pigeon/crow shooting, I have the synthetic version so getting it mucky and scratched will not bother me! I will be very interested in the views on the points I have raised and how you have found the Escort Semi Auto. S.B
Cranfield
I have never used an Escort shotgun, so I can't really comment. One thing in your post I don't quite understand. You are a left handed shooter, that closes their right eye (OK so far). You are looking for a left handed semi auto and complain about the premium that some Companies charge (I understand that and agree). Why then did you buy a righthanded Escort ? Don't the spent cartridges whizz past your nose like with other righthanded semis ? Am I missing something ?

Seymour Butts
Hi Martin, I have always shot with my right eye shut, I have tried shooting with both open but it does not improve shot to kill ratios. My mate is an instructor at sporting targets and he said it did not matter if I closed one eye, because I asked the same sort of questions when I first started using a shot gun a few years ago. Seymour Butts
Martin, Sorry I missed one of your points, I shoot the L85 right handed at work coz I have too and I can get better scores than right handed people, so eye sight is not a problem. I just like to make what I enjoy as easy as possible so I keep my right eye shut. I have to shoot the L85 right handed as the bolt will smack you in the face along with the spent case, I thought that a right handed semi auto would do the same thing till a few left handed people told me they shoot a right handed semi. I tried one at Sporting targets and got on fine with it so I bought the escort. S.B

S.B S.B. now you got me screwed all up ? are you left or right handed?? if you shoot the L85 R/H how do you shut your right eye ,is the gun sighted for your left eye, im a little confused as to how you do it (its probably a simple answer ,but im a simple guy right ) me, i shoot left handed ,but can and do shoot right handed in shotgun , my left eye naturaly dominates the gun,im not too bad at switch hitting around skeet trap and five stand. know what you mean with the case runnign across your eye ,when i shot the SLR 7.62 as a lefty it flew across my face a little to close ,my big prob was the guy to my left on range ,he threw them at me as well . Seymour Butts
Hi Martin, I am a true left hander, its only because the L85 is for right handers that I shoot it that way, I too use to shoot the SLR left handed. S.B
