dogfox
firstly, there are no decoys but there is grain scattered about by me, now when i get into the field which consists of 3 huge stubble fields, the one i choose being the centre of 3, i go into my corner and stand behind the shoulder high goarse with a camo balaclava on, what amazes me is that i dont see anything flying over let alone landing i mean, i looked at the fields the previous 2 days and there were tons of crows and pigeons coming down but even after waiting 30/40 minutes for it to cool down after i spread the grain still nothing comes in! can anyone give me an idea as to why this is? thanks Edited October 29, 2008 by dogfox
Cranfield
I have never fed a field and if the birds were there in numbers on previous days, I don't really understand why you felt you needed to. The birds are not going to spot grain from a distance, but they will spot decoys and usually come and have a look. Depending how good your layout is and how well you are hidden, they will keep coming. I would suggest you get some decoys and some camo netting and have another go. The best of luck for next time. deny essex
As cranfield stated , the idea of decoys is to show birds are confident of that area and the pssibility of food, drawing others into gun range with the thought of a feed or just inquisitiveness and flock manner. It is possible sometimes to decoy on nothing worthwhile to the pigeon and work on their flocking instincts but always the better results are over fields containing a food source and preferably under or as near as possible to a flightline.
