You can take a horse to water...

Friday 17th October:

95 acres of wheat stubble, approx 200+ pigeon in the area. We set up on the stubble and after the first shot the birds disappeared into the distance. Very few returned despite changing the pattern, moving the rotary and DB going for a long walk to try and scare birds into the decoys. Its like the old adage 'You can take a horse to water, but you cant make it drink!'. We ended up with a pickup of 102 at the end of a very frustrating day.

Friday 24th October:

Scanned the area for pigeons and found them all to be in the oak trees adjacent to the 95 acres of stubble. We set up on a flight line leading to the stubble field in a row of oak trees. We were then confronted by a farm contractor towing a pipe from the farmers slurry tank and he decided to drive up and down the filed we were in distributing the sweet smelling liquid. This also disturbed a lot of pigeons coming into our decoys. We ended the afternoon after 4 hours shooting with a bag of 52 and went home smelling sweetly of success with all the local cats around the base of my vehicle on my drive.
