dogfox
ok, in ireland, for a 1 year sgc its €25, for any after that its €6, now for a rifle cert its €38, these prices seem ridiculous dont they, now listen to this, 3 year licences are coming in as of next summer when the renewals are due, that means a 3 year sgc will be around the €75 mark!! with a rifle mostlikely being around the €100 mark! this is rediculous as with gun club and insurance fees on top of that (50 for gun club and 50 for full insurance cover) it will be immense! and with the high price of carts i can see alot of shooters here throwing the towel in. not my mates though, they have 7 guns in the house, consisting of 2 shotties a 20 bore and 12 bore, 3 .22s and 2 .223s, theyr going to need over 1 grand!!! for me alone this year it was €125 for licence fee, insurance and gun club! these fees just seem too steep! does anyone have any ideas why its such a high price in ireland compared to england?? Breastman
Why are guns/ammo so expensive in the UK compared to US?? Different countries, different rules/customs/charges for the same thing! BTW, are you allowed to own pistols in Ireland like you are in Northern Ireland? (I've still not got over the pistol ban ) Mark
dogfox
i see it in that respect but ireland and england have very similar laws regarding fireamrms, im not saying theyr the exact same but its such a rediculous price to pay for a licence! and yes you can own a pistol but you have to be a member of a target club that has a valid pistol range and so fourth

Same reason our cars are dearer and our tax rates are higher; to pay for ministerial Mercs, public sector pensions, skivers social welfare, consituency golf courses, etc., etc. Have you never heard the expression "rip-off Republic"? davie mac
i see what ther at, trying to get raid of guns in ROI because of the all the gun crime in the country but its not legal gun holders thats the problem its the criminal gangs i also think there are politicians who do not like country sports i have read that the green party minsters/minster is opposed to fishing and shooting and maybe that has something to do with the handgun ban and price rise in firearm certificates.. JohnGalway
As much as I dislike the GP, it's the FF(ers) in Government that're pulling the pistol stroke. Languishing at 18% in the Government approval opinion poll, making them one of our worst ever, they are cheaply and obscenely capatalising on the murder of rugby player Shane Geoghan (can never spell that name!) in Limerick by a criminal gang in a case of mistaken identity. As everyone here knows, they cannot provide evidence that any legally held pistol has been involved in any crime here, parlimentary questions were asked and couldn't be answered on that score. They are instead shamefully criminalising law abiding sports people of the Republic in a hollow PR stunt so they can be seen to be doing something handgun related. The talentless, spineless, leaderless cowards are running scared from criminals in this country. They're not on a level with those scum, they're beneath them. Apologies DF for the derailment. Breastman
"I am mindful of comments made by Mr. Justice Charleton in his judgement in a recent firearms case that a reasonable person is entitled to feel alarmed at the proliferation of handguns (Er, maybe poliferation of ILLEGAL handguns, why would a 'reasonable' person be bothered about someones sports equipment?!) . My concern is that unless strong and decisive action is taken the number of handguns could grow exponentially (is he talking about legal or illegal handguns at this point?! Oh wait, there's no difference is there . . . .) and our firearms regime would equate to that of countries such as the United States. Today we have 1800 legal handguns – in three years time that number could exceed 4,000 and rising." So there are 4000 handguns in the States are there?? That would be one per 625,000 people, riiiiiight! I think its more like 1 per 25 people! This horrendous statement is nothing short of slander to the law abiding handgun owners of Ireland, if their shooting organisations don't get off their ***** and correct this rubbish they should be immediately dissolved, especially when they haven't got an incident like Dunblane to battle against aswell. Maybe this imbecile should read the paragraph in the Police Firearms Guidance 2002 that clearly states that legally held firearms are NOT the cause of firearms related crime Grrrrrrrr! Mark And relax . . . . . .
Big_Sam
That is not expensive. $25euro is only about 5 boxs of carts. Nothing, popcorn.
