A good day (for me)

Had a great time today. Given permission as a one-off to shoot over some old stubble. when I arrived the trees at the far end of the field were covered in birds  Looked promising but I've seen this quite a few times, loads there, they leave as you arrive and set up and never come back!! so I was a bit aprehensive.

Anyway, I set the hide up under the trees where I'd seen them. There was not much in the way of cover to blend in with but I did the best I could. I even hung my water-proof camo jacket up to give me back cover. wind behind so two blocks of deeks left and right, starting 10yds out with about 10yds between the two. I put a couple of bouncers on the left side, outside the pattern and the rotary in a similar place 25 yds out on the right, plus a lander to the right of the killing area. Settled in the hide and waited.

Only five minutes or so and over comes the first of the day! Down it went and about 60 got up from some trees behind and to the right of me. Missed a high bird but got another crosser! Great, start :good:

Then it all went quiet, nothing in the air at all for must have been an hour. You can imagine what I was thinking!

So, then they started to come in from all directions and for the next two hours, with the odd short lull, I had some tremendous sport!! I think I had a run of 6/6 shots fired a one point but then a crow came over and completely ruined my stats.... 3 shots and its still going now I should think!

Finally ended the day with a count of 40 but only managed to pick the ones in the pic.

Loved every minute! :good: Oh, nearly forgot the two jackdaws!!
