Will Beasley
Word on the street is that Drilling has started in Suffolk. One Oxfordshire farmer reported that he plans to start in 2-3 weeks if the weather continues to stay dry.
Fisherman Mike
I know of a farmer locally that has already drilled a 30 acre wheat field and there is plenty of spilled red grain on the surface. The Rooks and finches have shown a good deal of interest in it but no pigeons as yet. Global Warming... I love it FM.

old rooster
Anybody needing a hand on big acreage let me know, I work for myself so very flexible, I've found it can help a lot to be able to shoot during the week if the weather is just right. millo2
I'm guessing shooting over drilling is good then. Anyone tell me why?
ernyha
I'm guessing shooting over drilling is good then. Anyone tell me why? The drillings are traditionally good times because the spilt seed on the surface draws the pigeons. Unfortunately for us shooters the farmers have better drills now and don't spill so much. M ROBSON
We have a farmer in Fife who planted 5 fields of Barley at the start of December! The farm was sold and it was all delayed so he had to put it in to get his subsidies. The crop is about a couple of inches long now.
henry d
Best to forget drillings at the mo,as on monday night it snowed hard here and the pigeons couldn`t get to the beech mast. As an experiment we kicked the snow off the rape, about 20m diameter circle(don`t tell the farmer!),and they never touched it by wednesday the snow was almost gone and no prizes for guessing where the doo`s are!
