El Gringo
I've read about 'confidence decoys' being used in the U.S. when decoying ducks though I've not used them myself. Are they effective with pigeon setups? If so, which seem to work the best? El Gringo
lurcherboy
What are 'confidence decoys' El-Gringo? LB
El Gringo
Sorry about that Lurcherboy. Guess I could have done a better job of explaining myself. Confidence decoys are those that are supposed to give extra realism to a setup. For instance, a flock of ducks might often be accompanied by a group of coots nearby or by a Great Blue Heron standing in shallow water near the spread. Some duck hunters who hunt from camouflaged boats will often place gull decoys on the structure to make it appear that it's nothing more than a resting place for such birds. I was just wondering, since you guys in the UK have a lot more experience than I at decoying pigeons, if you ever use such tactics. henry d
Hi El Gringo ! I quite often use a crow decoy as a confidence booster but usually away from the decoys, near the fence/hedge/ditch/wood whatever as you know a crow is a crafty critter and i think it helps my confidence as well, that and the chance to pop a crow too
clanchief
I usually fire out 3 crow decoys about fifty yars away from the pigeons, though one day all i got was crows coming into the field just out of range too. clanchief
millo2
I think that is the general way of boosting the confidence of incoming birds. Someone who took me pigeon shooting once had a pheasant decoy that they put close to the edge of the field as a confidence booster Scott
Cranfield
El Gringo, for every question, there are many answers and its mostly a matter of personal opinion. I think "confidence decoys" give the shooter confidence, not the pigeons. Thats my experience. When I used them, I don't think they made any difference at all. I don't use them anymore.
