getting a barrel screw cut for a mod

Evening all,

 

What is the opinion of people on here about getting a barrel screw cut in order to get a mod fitted. The rifle is a Savage Arms stainless barrel .17 HMR. If getting it cut, where would I get this done and what is the sort of price I would be looking at for getting a proper job of this.

 

Any help would be grand

took my .243 to Nigel Teague in Glouscester a couple of weeks ago, top man, top job,cost £100 that was to shorten the barrel screw cut and recrown then reproofed the rifle and mod ring him on 01454260226

I had my old cz 17hmr chopped to 14" which didnt affect accuracy at all. From memory i paid around £50.

If you're back up this way with it, Steve Kerr works from Howden (about 30 minutes to the south of me). He shortened my 22 and threaded it for (I think) £80. Top notch work and had it done in 2 days.

 

Might want to measure the diameter of the barrel at the muzzle end to see what thread options are available. You might be too small to make 1/2 UNF work.

Depending on where in kent you are, theres a guy called Chris Orasinsky who runs a Gunshop from home called C & Shoot in Folkestone, very good gunsmith and a nice chap, will cost in region of £70 to get a screwcut.

dont forget to get ot proofed after screw cutting if you intend to sell it on at some point
