  1. Yeah I have watched a few of the stripdown youtube vids and it seems no more complicated than my 10/22, I haven't seen any mention of aftermarket trigger kits for this rifle though, maybe I'll get on with the factory one. £250 to £280 is what they retail new, still not bad for a new rifle I guess.
  2. Thanks Kenj, Nice review, your analysis is bang on most of the stuff I have seen in reviews of it, certainly not off-putting, glad to hear the screw cut didn't affect iron sights, out of interest have you tried cci subsonic ammo? only downside I see is that since it came in Mossberg flavour instead of Magtech the price has gone up somewhat.....unless the price you mentioned was second hand? I want to buy a new rifle.......so I know only I break it.
  3. So I have a new slot on the FAC for another semi-auto rimfire, already have a Ruger 10/22 Magnum (shoots well and I like it but noisy in WMR), so now want a semi to use .22lr subs, had designs on getting an Annie 520 series (familiar with them as my dad had one) but have recently got drawn toward the Mossberg 702, the price is a big attraction, I also like the looks, so far reviews are not scathing and it will probably be up to the task I require of it. So what do people know about this rifle? advice on any tweaking you could recommend? can it be screw cut without losing the front sight? Thanks in advance
  4. Thanks for the input guys, it puts my mind at ease.
  5. So, Just sent the renewal forms off but I am slightly concerned by how much or how little shooting I managed to do over the last 5 years, is this likely to be a possible factor for a refusal? theres been so much going on in life for me that it affected how much time I had to go shooting and also for some part just my mood to go shooting, it would be ironic if I got a refusal now as recently my enthusiasm has come back and I just recently secured quite a substantial permission with another one on the cards. what are your thoughts? is this hobby of ours relatively secure enough to stay in the club once in?
  6. This is what I did with my 10/22 magnum
  7. I wouldn't have eaten it, prob had mixie, even an injured wild rabbit will want to run.
  8. No disrespect taken, your point is spot on, I was actually focusing more on the fact most of these events have been stabbings, no amount of gun regulation will prevent stabbings.
  9. My thoughts are with everybody affected by all the awfull events I've heard since christmas eve, what the hell has happened this christmas? it's been like a killing frenzy.
  10. Thanks for the speedy reply, yes I have an open ticket and the idea is in return for a bit of coaching I would have permission to shoot on the land, mainly for zeroing because it's not rich in bunnies.
  11. As the topic suggests I was wondering if it was possible for me to supervise someone else to use my rifle whilst shooting on their land? I would be present at all times and the land belongs to the person, they don't hold an FAC but may be interested in the future. is that technically the same thing as mentoring?
  12. Reminds us all that despite having arms and legs and fully functioning physique we can still be disabled, I feel ashamed of myself every time i see this guy.
  13. Very true, but I fear that the argument might be that only legally held firearms have ever been used to commit these kind of massacres, that is the most frustrating part, the real evil people who hold illegal firearms tend not to 'snap' and go on rampages.
  14. could this be 'have a final clean of all our toys' we might be handing them in soon?
  15. I think Wilson & Wilson in Minster near Ramsgate do all the gear, number I have for them is 01843 822242
  16. Depending on where in kent you are, theres a guy called Chris Orasinsky who runs a Gunshop from home called C & Shoot in Folkestone, very good gunsmith and a nice chap, will cost in region of £70 to get a screwcut.
  17. Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any restrictions on a high capacity mag for 22 magnum semi automatics in the UK, I recently aquired my ruger 10/22 magnum and am looking to get a high cap mag, but no-one in the UK has them for sale, volquartsen make one in milled alloy and pro mag do a plastic one, so far the only 2 availlable, I would have to order from the states, are there any regulations with regards to importing magazines?
  18. My FAC states that I can use 22 hornet on fox, I even heard from my FLO that .17HMR is ok on fox but chest shots only, he said there have been instances of fox taking head shots with HMR and still running.
  19. Thanks for the quick replies, it all helps. is there a definitive list of what major work constitutes? probably doesn't matter what blue you use, any cold blue should do 'what it says on the tin', the key is to get the initial prep right, making sure you keep the bore all sealed up.
  20. Just been watching some videos on youtube from MidwayUSA showing how relatively easy some jobs are, including barrel shortening and cutting a new dovetail for a front sight, given that metalwork does not put me off in any way as I am pretty good at it, is there any legal requirement in the UK to be a 'qualified' gunsmith to do the work and does this kind of work require re-proofing?
  21. Thanks for the replies guys, have got all the answers I was looking for, now just one more, what moderator is recommended for a 22 magnum?, I assume I will have to cope with having the supersonic crack regardless. p.s. I didn't mention before but I am doing a bit of customisation on my ruger, I saw once a ruger which had been converted to look like an M1 carbine (I love the M1), so I have put together all the bits, got a surplus M1 stock and dremmeled it out to fit the receiver ect, looks nice if anyone wants to see pics.
  22. Super, that is the auto bolt and magazine release and scope mount sorted thanks. could still do with advice on the barrel screwcut/foresight issue, as it seems impossible to find replacement barrels for a magnum.
  23. I recently posted about my desire to get a 10/22, I opted for a magnum and found one, but now I have it I am realising that spare parts and aftermarket parts are not so readily available for the magnum as they are for the LR. 1. the magnum has these integral scope mounts on the receiver which look like they need a ruger patented scope ring, can a gunsmith mill these off and tap in holes for a conventional mount? 2. it's not screwcut, easy to get done but I will lose the foresight if I do, can a foresight be retro fitted? or is it easy to get a new factory screwcut barrel? 3. the trigger group looks similar to a LR, are the aftermarket parts interchangeable? i.e. auto bolt release and extended mag release. any advise on this would be hugely apreciated. Thanks
