moses
I would say sending to a NI RFD would save you a lot of hassle. I'll ask my rfd mate for you in the morning. ATB Moses Edited December 1, 2008 by moses

Vegeta
Hey John, As you know yourself your local FAO will never have dealt with this type of thing before. I would advise getting it sent to NI as well, process is a bit more straight forward I think the process is as follows: Purchase barrel Apply for .17 license as normal here in the ROI While license is being processed contact an RFD in NI who will receive the barrel on your behalf, get it shipped to them. License granted Now you need to collect the barrel in NI. To collect and carry the barrel back from NI you will need some form of permission from the local authorities. Best bet is ring an RFD up north who is used to doing this and ask them what the local law guys require. Process would be the same if you went direct to the guy in England actually, there would be the extra hassle of having to declare it at customs but as you'd have local permission and your Irish license there would be no problem at all really (well you'd need an airline or ferry who will allow firearms components on board) My brother imported a pistol before from Germany and that involved an article 11 (took a few weeks to even locate one of these forms to fill in), you can avoid that hassle if you collect it yourself. Give an RFD in the North a ring and ask how they usually operate it. Edited December 2, 2008 by Vegeta
moses
To ship from uk to Eire rfd the shipper would need a firearms export license. I have been told it would be a lot easier to get it shipped to NI and then on from there.
