gundawg66
Hi lads I have just got my first shotgun. Its a beretta silver pigeon s with 31/2 chambers and 30'' barrels. I dont, however, have a clue about the choke markings eg. * ** *** or what size spread they represent. I would be gratefull if antone could spread some light on this for me. Cheers guys gundawg66
Hardwoods Green
If you go by the stars it gos like this 1 * Full 2 ** 3/4 or Improved Modified (IM) 3 *** 1/2 or Modified (M) 4 **** 1/4 or Improved cylinder (IC) 5 **** Cylinder (CL) or maybe skeet , cant remember
alexm
Here you go: Beretta chokes are labelled using the continental names so what they call 'Improved Cylinder' is really 1/4, 'Cylinder' is Improved Cylinder and Skeet is (true) Cylinder. Notches British Beretta Marking ---------------------------------------------------------- True cylinder Skeet (SK) ***** Improved cylinder Cylinder (CL) **** 1/4 Improved cylinder (IC) *** 1/2 Modified (M) ** 3/4 Improved modified (IM) * Full Full (F) Edited December 8, 2008 by alexm

Beardo
aaah that's cleared up something in my head - there was me thinking my Skeet choke was a negative (trumpet) cylinder as i also have a Beretta 'cylinder' one. ta!
alexm
aaah that's cleared up something in my head - there was me thinking my Skeet choke was a negative (trumpet) cylinder as i also have a Beretta 'cylinder' one. ta! In actual fact I've found that even the Beretta Skeet choke (English True Cylinder) has a tiny bit of choke compared to nominal 12 gauge diameter. Will2111
What does CL-C with 4 different looking stars on my Beretta optima HP choke I know its cylinder So why wouldn't it be marked CYL with 5 stars
Fellside
The manufacturers play around with their choke definitions constantly. Sometimes cylinder has a slight degree of choke (?!) and sometimes skeet is cylinder…. or even negative. Enough to drive choke fiddlers mad…..😁
