jobe
Hi Guys I recently took ownership of my fathers shotguns a Berretta S687 Sporting and a Zanoletti which have been in my brothers possesion since he passed away for the last 20 years, unfortuneatley they havent had much use and he isnt the best at maintainance, the Zanoletti has some bad pitting on the barrels and quite a bit of rust. The beretta thankfully has only a couple of minor marks on the barrels but along the sight line (not sure of the technical name the bit with the flat knurled finish) it has some bad rust and pitting. I am quite confident about refurbishing the stocks on both guns as I have some experience in that area using Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil Gun Stock Refinishing Kit, but I see they also do a blueing kit, would it be adviseable to try and repair, clean and reblue with this kit, is it something for a novice to attempt and has anyone used this product, would like some feedback on the ease of use, finish etc. Many Thanks Wayne Beretta Zanoletti Edited December 20, 2008 by jobe
Andy_B
They look in pretty good order to me mate...surley the rust on the barrels is easily removed with a scotch pad ..there is a guy on here that does excellent jobs on stocks..think his name is straighshooter..have a serach for his posts and you can see some of his work..all the best
seb
If they were mine I would try the finest wire wool on the bluing just to take that surface rust off then oil it and see how it looks before I did anything else.

Dead-Eyed Duck
Cold bluing is for small areas only, and it will not resist any form of wear. Doing the rib on the Beretta should be a fairly easy for a competent gunsmith, but taking out the pitting on the Zanoletti will not be easy. Take them into a gun shop for a quote. I used to polish barrels for a gunsmith..... Don
jinxy72
at the end of the day nothing is going to beat the work of a GOOD gunsmith ...... but ive tried the same blueing kit as u mentioned and the results arent bad ... could always try it for the sake of £15 or whatever it is .... and if u arent happy take them to a gunsmith Edited December 20, 2008 by jinxy72
