foggy11
Ok ...so heres one for you..... Was out yesterday with shell decoys . and a magnet..... The weather was fairly sunny here in the south...with very little wind at all...... Now and then there was a slight breaze , probably 10 mph or so gusts.....but heres the problem..... Every time there was a gust it was all over the place ie, every time from a differant direction ....even with smoke it was never in the same direction..... So the question is.....How do you go about placing every thing in a situation like this...... Cheers in advance...... Foggy....
Greenhunter
Definitely a case for a couple (or more ) floaters which move round in the changing wind. (Chris Green style) Other than that I,d forget the traditional horseshoe and make two blocks either side of the hide with a good 15-20 yds between them. Face the deeks in various directions 2yds apart. Try the rotary close in to the hide in the most visible spot but be prepared to bring it in or switch it off as they do seem to pull better in higher winds. I've sometimes turned one of the arms round so both birds face the same direction and used it like a floater. Remember nothings set in stone, try different things as this will improve your field craft. If nothing else you'll learn what doesn't work in certain situations. Cranfield
If the wind is light and variable, then I just place my decoys facing away from the hide, in such a way that I hope the birds will come into land behind them. I hate still days.
