matto
Can anyone help me date one of my guns? It's a ugartechea sidelock ejector 12g serial no's 43915. The date stamp on the barrels is H*1 which dates it to 1962 but i just cant see this gun being this old as it is in almost pristine condition. The bloke in the shop i bought it from said it was about 10years old. I cant find a web site for this maker. Any ideas?

Salopian
I think York Guns deal in Ugartechea, and I seem to remember Uttings of Norwich dealing in them years ago.Your gun could well be 40 years old, it may have been on many a dealers shelf on sale or return or just like an AYA of mine only goes out on high days and holidays.Salopian

Fisherman Mike
Its quite possible that the date is correct. If the gun has been well maintained. I have a 1959 spanish sidelock that looks as though it came out of the gunsmiths a week ago. Usually the stock condition will first indicate the guns age as this is generally the "softest " part of the gun which is easily marked. There is a possibility the gun could have been restocked in recent years. You will find also that modern blueing is not as good as the 40,s 50,s and 60,s if indeed todays guns are blued at all. Also check the general condition of the firing pins and wearing of the trigger plate they get worn smooth by the finger and shiny like the brake pedal on my wifes car. FM. Ozo
hey was wondering if somebody would know a rough age for my gun. Its made by Midland Gun Co., its a 30" s/s hammer gun, full and 3/4 choke. Its serial number is 110792 if that helps. i havent been able to find anything on the internet about it. Its been in my family for four generations and we've owned since the 1940's but i think its older than that. Thanks Ozo

In pretty good condition, except for the pin which controls the amount of travel of the ejecters .Can anyone date this gun and maybe know if a spare pin is obtainable. If not we shall have to get a replacement made. Knowing the age is also of interest to him. Thanks in anticipation . regards bb
