am i holding this gun thingy right?? :o

the pics were taken at the bottom of the gf's parents garden; thats the lake where i went ice fishing right behind me, think you can see people out on it. my suggestion of using them as target practice didnt go down well...

suppose id better give a quick note; that gun was a dream to shoot! not too much recoil, a bit of muzzle flip but again not too bad. the iron sights were a bit of a pain to get the angle right to see them the first few times, same for the optics that sergei fitted for me at one point, had a big rubber eye piece that felt awkward on my eye, but hey, its a 7.62 semi auto rifle with a bayonet, so i aint complaining! if you ever get a chance to take a shot from one go for it.

ps as mush as im a synthetic man, the wood on it was quite nice too

Looks awesome mate  what's the beast like to shoot then ? Bet it wasn't that bad  lol

How accurate was it ? See ur only using a 10 round clip, dont they use the 30 rounders

30 rounders are illegal there.... so could only take a pic of the 10 rounder

i put an edit in the main post about shooting mate, but i have to say it was pretty acurate, sergei got hit a running boar at 100m with iron sights... :o

 sweet

I assume the bayonet is for dispatch then?

no, most of the guys grind the lug off, but sergei decided to leave it on - pretty cool i thought! didnt ask if hed ever used it, mainly owing to the fact im sleeping with his little sister and didnt want to find out if it worked... :good:

Nice! I was thinking about buying a sks when i move to canada, there only about $180 and then you can get all the after market stocks for them :o Plus the ammo is quite cheap... (Only downside is that its a 5 rnd mag max...)

in latvia they cost about £100 second hand :good:

if this turns into a long term thing think ill be looking into buying myself one and getting sergei to keep it on his ticket for me, ill probably be heading over twice a year now - once in winter (wild boar) and once in summer (ducks). eh, i mean, winter for xmas and august for her mums bday....

Brings back memories  - used an SKS many years ago

BigThug, the SKS is less of a beast that the .308 (NATO 7.62 x 54)at least from a recoil and effect point of view, as it uses the same round as an AK47 (7.62 x39) . However...... still great fun to shoot

The SKS's I used all only had attached 10 rnd mags, with a hinge at the front that allowed you to quickly empty a full magazine, though I preferred emptying a magazine the proper way :o . We loaded it by using charger strips fitting to the top of the receiver in a similar fashion to the old Lee Enfields (which is another story :good: )

Babbyc, looked like you had fun - envy you the chance of having a go on a bit of history - looks in good nick though

Cheers

it was in excellent nick mate, i couldnt believe how good it was. it had the hinged 10 round mag as well, it could have been fitted with a 30 rounder, but thats illegal there so... end of convo

ill tell you all about how well it worked in a few days

I think wvwrylad needs a 30 round semi-auto Military issue combar rifle :good: Many would disagree.. I have a Yugo SKS and love the thing.. My son likes to burn through rounds quickly, and that little ****** put 200 round through a 10" Pine tree.. Sounded like bloody Bosnia all over again  Then it started to rain and that damn barrel started to sizzle and pop.. I was worried about the rifling, but if you hadnt noticed they are very heavy.. Tomorrow i will try to post some pictures of my "man Cave" A place where you blokes could appreciate :o
