cooperman
Hello all, am looking to add a set up mostly for squirrel. Anyone any suggestions, Including a reasonable sight, moderator etc. Not got great buget, probably have to be 2nd hand. SNAKEBITE
A standard 12lb'er would be just fine. Nothing too powerful as you are taking elevated shots. Springer or pcp the choice is endless, depends on your budget.

Munst
I've always found .177 better for squizzers in a non-FAC rifle, they are very tough little ******* and the extra penetration of the .177 over .22 made all the difference for me when I was using air rifle...I now use .410 shotgun with light cartridges
col s10
I've always found .177 better for squizzers in a non-FAC rifle, they are very tough little ******* and the extra penetration of the .177 over .22 made all the difference for me when I was using air rifle...I now use .410 shotgun with light cartridges extra penetration with a 177 all my rifles are 22.and when i shoot tree rats,my ammo goes right through them
SNAKEBITE
Never had a pellet go right through. Skin like leather on the squizzers, very tough. Never had any worries on .
bullet boy
Apart from a Rapid,go for an AAS410 in .177-this is my choice for the job.

kelly44
For tree rats a 22 i think is best as they are tough as old boots sneaky little ******* 2 anyway best not start on that good luck mate
realtreedave
for tree rats accuracy is important,if you can hit a 2p coin every time out to your max range then thats good enough.you also need a wide field of view,i always set my scope to three times magnification.personaly ive found an umarex air magnum perfect for the job once you find the right pellet for the magazine[air arms]
wantausername
we just got 22 cal airrifle with flat nose pellets & it flattens the squirrels here.
TheHunter
Any of the 12lb PCPs will do the job The main thing to remember here is to hit the little ****** in the head. You would not believe the punishment they can take to the body and still get away.
smsguitarist
People are right they can be tough little *******. A friend of mine shot one in the neck... got up started to flee so he shot again, hit in the shoulder and it fell. After a second it got up and started off again! Another shot to the chest and it stopped running but it still wasn't dead! So a fourth shot point blank to the head finished him off. That was with a 10.5ftlb .22 springer. My .177 QB78 Deluxe running 10.74ftlbs had the poor little critters friend only minutes before in one shot to the lower part of the head near the neck where matey's shot hit his first time So thats me set on .177 for squirrels from now on. airssassin
I use a .177 on squirrels.. and very effective it is too! You need to get the right spot and that is the upper neck / back of the head for a clean kill. DON'T shoot between the eye and ear like you would with a rabbit. Erik Hamburger
I hope you will try eating them as well! I shot a few last week, and just took off the bag legs and served them up to my wife and son, and they loved it! Then I am an excellent cook...
