Pigeon Call

I have never bought one, as I am not sure in what circumstances you are supposed to use them.

When decoying, the pigeons first awareness of your layout is visual and they are probably too far away to hear you calling.

Also, I have never heard feeding pigeons making any "calling" noises to passing birds (like ducks do).

Likewise, evening roosting pigeons don't seem to call.

Which makes using it for roost shooting seem a bit odd.

Pigeons do call when resting (digesting), or as part of their mating behaviour.

Whether they call to attract other pigeons (apart from the one they fancy), is very debatable.

No doubt someone has bought one and can report what a phenomenal success they are. :)

The general idea, IMO of a pigeon call, is to reply to a calling/cooing bird in

the vicinity, in the hope that it will flight to the caller.

As to the effectivness of a call, on many occasions when birds are not flighting

but unseen can be heard, after using a call, a flighting bird has appeared in a previously empty sky.

Might just be a coincidence, who knows?.

Do the pigeon calls, such as the one Deben sell, actually work?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Hi,

Try to say like a rockpigeon, when the pigeons would not come to your decoyes.

http://www.webbyen.dk/hentfil.asp?hentfil=87274 Some times it works very well. Call with your mouth, and only when the wind come to the pigeons, otherwise they can't hear you.

Repeat it over and over again until you shoot. Like that http://www4.webbyen.dk/vishjemmeside_priva...webside=2845118

Good luck........Soren
