Nial
Presuming that a service takes longer than 72 hours, what happens when you hand your gun in for a service? Is it written on your certificate when you hand it in, then when you get it back again? Mine's needed a service since I got it (6 months ago) and I've been wondering. Nial. Harnser
The R.F.D. who services your gun will take responciblity for your gun whilst he has it and it will be entered in his log of guns on his premises . Harnser .
David BASC
Spot on, and it will not need to be 're-entered' onto your ticket when you collect it. D

clayman
A gun listed on a certificate is a right to be in possession of, rather than a declaration of ownership or where-abouts. Theoretically a gun can be on multiple certificates, for instance a club gun that could be used by several coaches, or the prime owner and other family members. Similarly, a gun could be listed at more than one address, if your brother has a country estate you stay at regularly, a gun could be listed on two certs in two areas, but can be at either address at any time without transferring the gun back and forth. If the gun is simply with an RFD, its on the dealers register while being repaired. You are still entitled to be in possession at any time, but you have receipt ( I hope) from the RFD stating its in their care.
peck
when my rifle was with the gunsmith he just gave me a receipt with the model and serial number on it and said it will be ok if the police need to check.
