adymorris
Seconded - you don't need a £175 jacket and a pair of £50 trousers - £25 to £50 on surplus should see you right, try to get a lined jacket & trousers as they are very good - I've had the same one since 1989 and 2 pairs of trousers (due to expanding waistline, not through use)

Trussman
is it the gortex army stuff? is that not noisy when you are moving around? At home yes. In the field it's not really noticeable.
myzeneye
the army gore-tex gear is great... for keeping the wind and wet out that is... really strong well made kit. BUT...... it is a tad on the noisy side, the pants in particular make a fair old racket... but worse still, they have no pockets !!! this, belive me is not a good thing... i really wanted a sas smock, as theyre as strong, windproof and have loads of pockets... but arnt water proof...... dam it !!! value for money wicked, you can get them cheap... but for no fuss, windproof ,water proof, noiseless, with pockets and not redculasly bulky.... maybe even "action cut " you do need to spend a few quid... thats why i just bought me a seeland beater...... top class coat.... oh yes... spanielboy
this is the jacket i was thinking of getting. http://www.gilsansports.com/product.asp?search_id=20720
Ozzy Fudd
the goretex is a bit noisy; i was thinking more ofthe combat jackets that were issued before the 95 gear came out, had rank tabs on the shoulders; i had one and it was waterproof, not sure where ud get them. anyway the goretex isnt that noisy, if its raining the rain would cover any noise you make
Daimler42
Hi, I have the growler jacket - its good for wandering around but is a bomber style which is just to short when sitting, crouching and lying in a field, hedge etc. It rides up and exposes your back - painful when coming into contact with nettles!! Other than that though its okay.
adymorris
is it the gortex army stuff? is that not noisy when you are moving around? mines not - it's normal cloth material with a lining in it - I can't give you a part number as my mate who I got it from was in the paras and liberated it from an RUC member and cut the tag out due to it having his name on it - very warm thought plus it's got a detachable button on hood
