foggy11
Hi all..... Never hear of anyone mentioning maize as a crop for pigeons to go for..... Round here they will be drilling soon...... Is there any sport to be had on maize....?? Many thanks... Nik...
MerseaDavid
I would have thought that you should see a few birds on the drillings. We have grown it on our farm, but not for a while and the pigeons liked it when drilled and when harvested.
Warlock
Got to agree, you will see plenty of initial movement on pretty much any drilled area, pigeons know drilling means food so they`ll pop down for a visit to see what they can find, it draws them in from a long distance, plus decoys how up a treat on fresh drillings. ayano3
I have never shot Maize drillings but can be good shooting when last seasons crop has been chopped. I had a bag of 40 Woodies on Wednesday between 11am and 3pm so I would imagine if you have drilling to go on somewhere you could have last years cover. Good luck on the drilling, keep us informed how it goes. Chopped maize is also a tasty snack for rats, which brings me to today. We are doing some of our drives/cover today with the terriers for rats. We seem to have quite a few holes again and tracks all around the cover etc so I'm looking forward to a good day. garyb
(btw Maize is Sweetcorn if people don't know) Not quite It's similar but not the same.. Maize is animal feed / cover crop - you wouldn't want to eat it (ask SS)
Beardo
well it's pretty much the same thing, much like Charlotte and Maris Pipers are both potatoes, but one if flowery and one waxy. Oh and pray tell what's the SS story, been taking the odd ear for sunday lunch? Edited February 23, 2009 by nickbeardo
