steve_b_wales
I have a Dell computer. When I bought it a few years ago, it had System Restore installed on it. Now, it does'nt work. I want to restore my computer back to a few days ago because I am having a problem with one of the programs Is there anyway of re-installing the System Restore program? Thanks Steve

Dunkield
Right click on My Computer, then click on the System Restore tab at the top If it is switched off the box at the top will be checked.
steve_b_wales
Stuartp, just checked this and the box is not 'checked'. The problem I have is this. My printer can print onto CD's and I use a Canon Scanner. I used to be able to scan a disk and it would then be transferred to my PC via a program called Arcsoft Studio. I could then adjust the settings (colour, brightness etc) and then send it to print. For some reason, the scanned image is saved to my documents and settings. I now cannot alter the image ready for printing. I have re-installed the drivers for the scanner and also re-installed the Arcsoft program with the back up disc I had with my PC. I use this facility to scan disks that have been designed for me or to create a back-up disc.
Dunkield
OK, so if you run System Restore, does it not give you any restore points that can use?
steve_b_wales
When I run System Retore, there are a few restore points. I click onto one of them and the PC goes through the process. It then restarts saying that the computer cannot be restored to that particular point/date. I have also tried it on other dates.
peter-peter
look for a date that says system checkpoint steve.
steve_b_wales
peter-peter, I found a 'system checkpoint' and clicked onto that. After the computer restarted, it said that it could not be restored to that date/point. I'm baffled now.
staghunter
i had to something like that last month turn computer off then back on again and press f8 as soon as you have turned it on or until it shows that you can start in safe mode. i found that in safe modethere is a option that you can click so you can start your computer at a date that you want to hope this works
bruno22rf
from what i remember you have to set a restore date when you first get the machine-the ones shown are not valid-if you never manually set a restore point then the pc cannot go back to it. steve_b_wales
My System Restore program automatically selects restore dates. These are in bold on the calendar. Clicking on any of these dates, restarts the computer from that date (except mine) staghunter. I'll get my mate down to look at my PC. I read earlier about the safemode startup. I'll give it a try.
