Catamong
Mark 1 Spitfires had a total of 8 No Browning .303 Machine Guns on board, I believe later versions may have been equipped with cannons..?? I wonder how they managed to find the bullets if the shell cases had been fired, as they should have been a couple of miles apart..?? They look suspiciously clean to be genuine, although no doubt some muppet will bid a fortune for them..!!
kdubya
Didn't realise they used .25 calibre rounds in Spitfires ? they didnt? spitties were equiped with 8 browning 0.303 machine guns as stated by the previous poster tests wer carried out using 20mm canon (oerliken) but discarded in favour of 4 303 guns mounted on each wing outside of the prop circle I believe ALL models used 303 only cheers keith
ernyha
Some later model Spitfires were fitted with 2 cannon but it was never a real success due to the thin profile of the wing which restricted the ammunition feed and ejection, causing jams. The Hurricane with its much thicker wing section was often fitted with cannon and even under wing rockets and these were used extensively in the desert against Rommel. old rooster
I've written "nicely" to the guy listing these as IMHO to try and make money by dishonestly listing things as relics from one of the World Wars is pretty low. Just my own feelings.
