Re-proofing a barrel

I had my 308 threaded for a moderator. I did not have it proofed because I had no intention of ever selling it. I am now thinking of selling it because I don't think I will get to use it that much.

How much will it cost, and how do I go about getting it proofed?

Thanks

Steve

Thinking (just thinking mind) of selling the 308 because

(1) I only have it on a 'closed' ticket and the police (after appealing) are refusing to open it

(2) I have my 243 which will be sufficient for most of my stalking, plus fox shooting

(3) If it's sold, I will apply for a 1-1 variation and get a top make 17HMR target rifle

They still won't open it up steve ? :good: What are they playing at ? Have you contacted BASC like you said you would ?

Ask them why they won't and maybe wait a bit before giving up mate  Maybe in 6 or 12 months they will open it up then!

I know it seems like a long time but it flies by

BASC have contacted the police. My 243 has been put on a 'closed' ticket too if stalking, despite the fact that I hve had it on a 'open' one for fox shooting for 4 years!

I will probably get the 243 opened up, but I don't think the same about the 308. I can wait 6 months and re-apply, but to be honest, I can't be bothered, and, as I have a deer caliber anyway, I will probably just use that.

As I understand it the proof house fires a dummy charge from every barrel tested. This is 30% over pressure, and if the gun survives they stamp it and send it back, if not you get the bits.

Since they need to fire it I would guess they want the whole thing, although it is possible to use electrically detonated charges.

The proof houses are really helpful, www.gunproof.com . An email to Brum will get you a definitive reply. It may or may not be possible without the whole gun, and it may or may not be cheaper one way than the other, if both are possible proofing tests.
