Scope problems

Hi,

This probably seems extremely basic but I bought my first air rifle today with a very basic scope, was going fine in the garden, tonight I decided to adjust the focus, somewhere along the way the cross hairs have stopped lining up when I look down the scope. Any help on how I can get this back to how it should be would be very much appraciated. Also could you use lehmans terms where possible :good:

Sorry if this is a bit basic/obvious etc

Thanks!

Jack

The crosshairs are blurry, I assume there's two veticle and two horizontal lines and theyre not meeting properly so it appears blurry. The focus of what im looking at is fine, just the crosshairs which are blurry

It could be that the scope has taken a severe knock. This could have altered the positions of the crosshairs. If you've ever seen them you will realise just how delicate these things are. Had the same problem with an ACOG I had a while back. Managed to straighten the crosshairs out, but at the expense of the thing fogging up all the time lol

dont ever try to open up a scope youl just destroy it.it sounds like you nead to readjust the focus at the occular lens[the bit you look through],some have a fast focus system, often denoted by a plus and minus stamped next to the adjuster others have a lock ring set up[this will need slackening before adjustment]when focusing point at the sky and rotate the adjustment ring until the crosshair is clear and sharp, then if you have a lock ring retighten.with the lockring setup be very carefull not to adjust too far as it will let the gas[nitrogen]out and cause fogging and corrosion.this only focuses the crosshair[reticule]and not what youyou are looking at,that should be done at the objective lens[the opposite end to the occular lens]or via adjustingthe magnification. :good::yes::yes:

Er, did you read the manual that came with that ACOG? Cos in mine it says if the casing is cracked or opened to bury the scope a minimum of 1 metre in the ground, mark the location and contact the hazardous substance/contamination officer for your unit immediately?!?! :hmm:

Sorry for the de-railment

Are you sure you ahve adjusted the focus ring and not the zoom ring?

Does your scope have a seperate focus ring/ and at what range are your trying to focus to?

Some scopes will not focus well at airgun ranges as they are designed fo shooting at much longer ranges.....

It would help if you told us what scope it is and at what range, BTW there is only one set of xhairs. They meybe blurred because your eye is not in the same place as it was before in realtion to teh scope (called eye relief)

There are lots of reasons it could be happening we could do with some more clues to assist you.

A question - is the gun a springer or a precharged. If it is a springer you need to put an air rifle rated scope on it. Springers have recoil opposite to cartridge guns and can easily shake loose the scope reticles. Precharged dont have this problem and can take normal rifle scopes. When I had my shop I customers come in with scopes that were on springers where the reticles had been broken or completey dislodged. :hmm:
