Guest topshot_2k
Nick, I don't know a single farmer who does not support a badger cull. I talk to farmers on a daily basis, and I am a cattle and arable farmer myself. Friends and family have lost staggering sums of money having infected cattle slaughtered. Badgers are an absolute menace. However the local badger protection and welfare groups are an equal problem - these people do not care about private property and farming operations. They traipse whereever they please, hectoring farmers whenever there is a perceived slight against the little black and white tossers. One spilt slug pellet and the badger group lunatics are all over us like a rash, bringing the coppers with them. I have probably mentioned it on here before, but I have had to assist our local vicar reinterring human remains that have been dug up by Brock. That was a sobering, anger-inducing experience. What was more unamusing was the Badger Group requesting that the graves were moved from the graveyard to another site, so that the badgers could remain undisturbed. Any cull permitted in England would become an eradication programme, and I would be the first to stock up on V-Max. Spot on

Baldrick
The latest edition of Farmers Weekly is jam-packed with articles about the decision to begin culling in Wales. There are various letters and comments about disruption and protests by Badger Trust Cymru, and other associated hippies and eco-scum. The badger lovers are going to make any culling work difficult and unsafe. If I was a Welsh RFD, I would be offering bulk-buy deals on V-Max, 36gr BB and Sun-Pat peanut butter. lapwing
Come now, it is just a simple matter of getting a couple of "celebrity chefs" to extol the cholesterol free eco friendly low food miles benefits of this readily available protein on everyone's doorstep. Not saying I am too keen to munch one, but if everyone did their bit.... Maybe we could get Max Clifford to take up the cause of Roast Badger for Christmas? MM
in all honesty, (and im not a farmer) i love watching badgers. I think they are amazing animals, and would love to have one as a pet BUT, the sad fact is that if they are the source of damage to animals and crop, then there is not option but a cull. I think this can be said for all creatures (apart from rats), that if they did no harm, let em be

ProteuS
Good news about something being done to get numbers down in my opinion, I'm always surprised how much of a hole they can make in the ground. I agree with the comments about their only good use being for shaving brushes! I have only had one close experience with a badger, which crossing the road one morning as I was heading to a friends to sleep after a heavy night and an unwise decision leaving me without my house keys. One crossed infront of me, then the second squared upto me and charged. I managed to kick it in the snout before clambering onto a wall and watching it scarper off. It was very nearly a brown trowser moment.
