Topgunners
I booked this week off from work to do nothing but shoot everyday (weather permitting) but my jeep had other ideas. I finally got out for a bit of shooting after a nightmare 2 days with my jeep in the garage having some VERY expensive work done (OUCH). I drove round all the drillings and could not find pigeons anywhere in large numbers so decided to set up on some newly rolled wheat drillings and after 3 hours picked up 37 pigeons and a couple of rooks. I then moved onto a field scattered with blackies and put the 2 dead birds on floaters and 12 deeks on bouncy sticks and ended up with 18. By this time the sun was quite warm and it was about 3.30pm so I decided to drive to another farm and then got the CARP mat out and lay down along a hedgerow with my .22 rimmy for some rabbits. I had shot 4 when a big dog fox came into the field at the top right hand corner about 100yards away and then ran in a diagonal path straight to the bottom left of the field ; right past where I was lying down and within 20 YARDS of me. I barked to try and stop him as he hadn't even seen me but unfortunately did not hesitate one bit on his run. I shot 17 rabbits there; and then about 18.00pm I moved onto another farm I had not been to for a month or so and again, lying down on the grass again, shot another 11. 8.30pm with a Jeep full of quarry I drove home and when I got in a couple hours were then spent breasting and skinning. Then I popped round to a couple of old folks's houses to drop off some of the pigeons and rabbits for them. Phew!!!! It's a hard life being a shooter. 06.30am and now I am just about to go out and do it all again. Dave K

Cranfield
Good report as usual. The drillings are so well done nowadays, that I am finding very few birds on newly drilled fields and am waiting for the "chitting".
