BrowningGP
I’ve been using Blue Diamond for a few years now but my pops has recently bought Black Gold, which he thinks gives him some tactical advantage over me (father son, competition) having tried both i feel that Blue Diamond are just as quick and produce a good shot pattern as the supposedly better Black Gold..I just feel that Black Gold are over powered and Hurt too much in the shoulder! Just wondering what other people think? Btw i am looking for a cheaper training cartridge nothing to punchy but gets the job done! Any suggestions? Cheers GP
throdgrain
I don't think it makes any difference at all personally

Chard
I've used Black Gold and didn't notice any excessive recoil They're both hellishly expensive for a training cartridge though Why don't you just get some Eley Firsts for training? Mr Potter
I dunno lol Black Gold Feels like im firing a bazooka! I've got to agree, I tried Black Gold in fibre wad and I couldn't finish a box of 25 my shoulder was hurting that much! Everybody feels recoil differently, a friend of mine who probably weighs about half as much as I do, could fire those or even 36gram (the old FITASC specials) all day and not feel a thing. Well it's either that or I'm just a big wuss. Mr Potter
raistrick
Anyone here ever notice shot pattern variances? To me it always seems theoretical. I've noticed a difference between chokes, and a difference in shot weight (although most of that is recoil), but never worried about the actual pattern of the shot. notsosureshot
Anyone here ever notice shot pattern variances? To me it always seems theoretical. I've noticed a difference between chokes, and a difference in shot weight (although most of that is recoil), but never worried about the actual pattern of the shot. After looking into the issue, I'd agree pattern (as measured on card/paper) is irrelevant in 99% of situations. The OP sounds like he has a dad who is playing mind games! He's trying to psych you out mate! PS. I've found Eley to be rather poor, messy and the cheaper end seem to "crack" rather than "boom". Hull Comp X seem fine in 21 and above, clean and consistent. fuzrat
Have to say black golds look very sexy and seem to make a more solid thunk when you stick them in the chamber. I too found them very punchy and cant really justify £180 odd a thou just to look cool. (who really looks at what shell other people are useing anyway) Ive been useing the Gamebore kent velocity for everything except skeet and found them a really good shell and at £125 per thou for plas and £135 for fibre nice on the wallet and at 1400fps at the muzzle quite fast enough. Only downside is they only do a 7.5 and no plans for a 9 or I would use them for skeet too Spoke to a gamebore rep a few weeks ago and he said the velocitys use the same components as the white gold xlr range but they can do them cheaper because they just have 1 machine turning out 28g 7.5s all day long and brand them in the kent name rather than gamebore. mikee
the only tactical advantage he has is that its in both your heads that he's got a better shell than you, dont worry about what you shoot worry about where you shoot it mikee
