Certificate

This may be a controversial one, but... does anyone think we'd be better off, it was workable, with one licence for both shotguns and rifles?

Interested to hear your replies.

Cheers

Ross.

Ross, Which criteria would you adopt for the issue of a combined certificate, those required for the issue of Firearms Certificate (FAC) or those required for the issue of a Shotgun Certicate (SGC)? They are very different, the FAC is much more restrictive in what you can own, what can use the gun(s) for,how much ammunition you can buy and store and you require two counter signatures. The SGC has none of these restrictions and only requires one counter signature.

I agree that a modern form of certificate is overdue,it could easily comprise of two parts.A paper portion for recording transactions on and a plastic card for ID purposes.

short of going to the way we do it in the US, I would suggest a simplified license system here.

Shotgun certificate as it is. I don't see a problem the way it is done and the way you can buy shotguns (aside from requiring a certificate in the firstplace).

Rifle should be broken in two- rimfire/air rifle and centerfire. If you are approved for rimfire then you can buy rimfire and air rifles. As many as you want, of any type/cartridge. Same for centerfires. If you're deemed safe enough to own any particular centerfire, you're safe enough to have any centerfire.

There could be some exceptions when you get to the really big stuff. In that case maybe you need an exception/condition.

Thanks,

Rick
