Beardo
call your local constabulary firearms office - tell them the land, if it's not cleared you can arrange for the relevant FLO to clear it.
Harnser
If you dont have an open ticket then you will need to have the land cleared . If you do have an open ticket and you deem it to be safe then fill your boots . Harnser . Edited April 23, 2009 by Harnser

Blackbart
If it says land deemed fit by chief or something like that..its closed. If it says land you have lawfull authority to shoot...its open.

If it says land you have lawfull authority to shoot...its open. Not wishing to hijack the OP's thread. Does this mean that an open FAC allows shooting literally anywhere, with any calibre as long as you had permission? Meaning, its the shooters judgement whether or not a particular calibre is suitable. Taking an extreme example, if a shooter so wished, as a holder of an open ticket, he could shoot .50BMG for deer in a 20 acre field providing he had permission on the land and the shooter thought it appropriate for the conditions/terrain? Sorry OP, just wanting to clarify a point raised here. Edited April 24, 2009 by notsosureshot
casts_by_fly
notsosure, In theory yes, that would be correct. However, our example has a few problems. First, the person would have to have deer on his ticket. Then he would have to have a condition that allows him to use the BMG on deer. I don't think there is a force that would clear a BMG for anything but target use at approved ranges big enough for the BMG. In fact, it seems like most forces have the same restrictions (target only on approved ranges) for anything over 338 and including 338 with most forces. So the practical reality of what you're saying is unlikely. And, you can have an open ticket with one gun, but not another. Some forces will do that for vermin control and open a 22LR, but leave the centerfires restricted. Thanks Rick
notsosureshot
Thanks for that Rick, it covered everything I was getting at. I wonder if you'd get .50BMG for Yeti's or perhaps the Loch Ness monster. B)
