My new Browning is Faulty - Help!

Hi,

Bought my first gun at the weekend. A nearly new Browning B525 Sporter 30" MC.

Shot Saturday and all was fine - lovely gun.

The shop assistant took the gun apart for me and boxed it up. Got it home and cleaned it. All fine so far you might ask.

But now it won't go back together!! - Now I know I'm a novice but I'm not stupid nor is my friend who has been compo shooting for years and she cannot get it back together either.

I'll try to describe - I can relocate the barrel catch in the stock section but then when I try to snap the gun shut it won't budge. The only way I can shut the gun is to do it manually with the opening lever...BUT to add to my woes the lever will not return to the centre once the barrels are locked AND further I cannot fire both barrels - only one then apply safety, then switch barrel selector, then safety off then fire the other barrel.

All very strange behaviour.

So my friend called her friend who runs a shooting school. He told me to "bang" the stock with a good palm. Bingo I got both barrels to fire. But then nothing again and the barrels still won't click in and the lever is still not straight when barrels are manually locked.

Any help - all very puzzling!

If the lever is about 10 degrees off centre, don't worry - it's normal and will reduce as the action wears in. You may want to check whether there is any gubbins clogging up the 'bite', the slot where the locking bolt engages at the action below the second barrel.

Brownings have an inertia system to activate the mechanism to fire the second barrel. Only the recoil of the first shot or a thump to the stock will allow you to fire both barrels consecutively.

You will have to hold the top lever open to reassemble the gun. That's also normal.

Yep - I truely am a novice! You are all right. Got the shop man to explain all - wished he had done that when I bought it mind!

This is perfectly normal behaviour for my gun.

I guess we all have to start somewhere (and hopefully anyone else in the same boat can read this and know they are not going mad!)
